I decided to study at Barnes & Noble today to get away from home, and also so I could be like one of the girls from the books. I'm playing Quizlet on my computer, drinking my Starbucks, and listening to music on my headphones when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I turn to see a little girl with brown hair sitting next to me. She looks familiar.
"Hello, I can't find my mommy."
"Oh, um, where was the place you saw her?"
"Over there with the books," she says.
I laugh. "There are books everywhere; it's a bookstore."
"My mommy said if I ever got lost, I should stay put. But you look pretty and safe, and my mommy said I should go towards an adult."
"Oh, okay. I guess you can stay here; she'll come around here eventually."
"What's your name? Mine's Alice. What's yours?"
"Talia. Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?"
"Yes, please."
"Okay, come on."
We walk to the counter of the Starbucks.
"What do you want?"
"A vanilla scone and chocolate milk."
"I'll take what she said."
After I pay, we walk back to our seat and start talking. I love kids; they're so cute.
"Do you wanna watch a movie?" I say.
"ALICE IN WONDERLAND! SHE'S MY FAVORITE!"
"Okay, okay," I say as I laugh and take out my AirPods, handing one to her, and start playing the movie.
After a short while, I hear, "OH MY GODDESS ALICE, I THOUGHT I LOST YOU!"
A woman comes up and picks up Alice and basically squishes her.
"Who are you?" the woman asks while side-eyeing me.
"Mommy, this is my new friend. She took care of me. Oh, mommy, she should be my babysitter; you said you were looking for one."
"Okay, sweetheart."
"Hi, I'm Amy. Have I seen you before? You look familiar."
"I don't think so. I'm Talia."
"Nice to meet you, Talia. Hmm, even that name sounds familiar. Anyways, Alice would not leave me alone if I didn't ask: would you be free to babysit her? Of course, I would have to run a background check, but would you be open to it?"
"Sure, I would love to. Alice is such a sweet girl."
We exchange numbers, and I say goodbye as Alice grabs one of my legs and says, "Bye, Talia. I'm going to miss you so much."
"I'll see you soon," I say, watching them leave as I go to check out the few books that I had. This was an eventful trip.
Ace's POV
As I walk through the door of the house from practice, I'm bombarded with a girl hugging my leg.
"ACEYY!"
"Hey, Ali," I say while I pick her up and put her on my hip.
"ACE, IS THAT U?" my mom yells.
"Yes, mom. And by the way, it's cool if I go over to Kai's tonight."
"Yes, actually, perfect timing. I can call the babysitter."
"The babysitter?"
"Do you want to tell him, Alice?" she says with a raise of an eyebrow.
"So basically, I got lost, and I found this super pretty lady, and she watched me and gave me food. OH, and we watched a movie! You should date her; she's really pretty. Her name is Talia."
"Do you know her last name?"
"How am I supposed to know, stupid? I'm only 6!"
"Alice, what did we talk about?"
"Sorry, mommy."
"Okay, I'll catch you guys later," I say, setting down Alice as I walk up to my room and start to get ready until I drive to Kai's. He doesn't have a car, so I have to pick him up. So technically, I'm not lying completely. I say bye to mom and Alice then get in my car and drive a few minutes over to his house.
"You ready to get wasted?" I say as Kai gets into my car.
"Definitely not."
