Kokichi woke up. Something was different.

He had energy today.

He sat up, rubbing off a bit of sleep from his eyes. Looking around, he noticed the curtains were open. On his bedside table, there was a small juice box waiting on him.

One of the nurses must've made their monthly visit.

He picked it up with his hand and smiled a bit, gripping it a lot better than what he was normally able to do. It felt good. Scratch that, it felt amazing.

For a moment, it felt like he was on top of the world.

He opened the juice box and put the straw in the hole as he stood up and slipped his hospital slippers on.

He walked out of his room carrying the juice in his hands, looking around as he walked. He hadn't been out of his room in a few days, and it seemed that most of the residents in his hall were either moved somewhere else or they were just gone completely.

He walked up the hall and into the main nurse's desk area, stopping to wonder whether he should go outside or go read.

He decided to go read for a bit in the library. Since today was a good day, he probably wouldn't need the book holder for once.

He walked in and the librarian glanced up for a moment, a bit surprised to see that it was him of all people. Which, to be fair, was completely understandable considering his past few days of unproductivity.

He went over to the shelf where new books gotten were kept. Scanning their spines, he looked for anything that immediately caught his eye.

There was sadly nothing, so he went to the shelf with the horror novels and grabbed an old one, one he'd read many times already.

He sat down in one of the library chairs and began reading the book.

Same story, same characters, same style. And yet, it had never gotten boring. Some would consider this impossible, and until this book, Kokichi thought it was impossible too.

But this book was one Kokichi had read dozens of times, and he still enjoyed everything about it.

Thought he might've been a bit biased considering the title had grapes in it.

He smiled, knowing that today was a good day, one where his body didn't feel like it had already finished decaying.

He missed when these days happened every day.

Shuichi was bored. So bored he thought he might die.

Kaede had stopped by and said her greetings again in the morning. Their class had less than twenty students in it, so it made sense that Kaede wanted someone new to talk to.

Shuichi ran through the list in his head again.
