The next morning Katrina was at the station once again, she sat on the back of Truck 81 as she took a bite out of an apple as she listened to the conversation that her colleagues were having. Katrina watched as Peter Mills rolled up one of the hose pipes that belonged to the firetruck, it was all part of the training he had to do. However, the conversation and training session was cut short by Gabby Dawson, one of the stationed EMT's.
Also, the woman that Katrina had feelings for.
"Hey, Peter Mills." She walked over, leaning on Katrina's shoulder with a mischievous smirk as she called for Peter Mills' attention. "My partner, Shay, she's been asking about you. Talking about you all morning." Katrina knew that she had a feeling where this was going and she couldn't help but stifle a chuckle. Gabby had pulled this exact same move with Otis. It was a running gag Gabby had created to get the new candidates thinking Shay was interested in them only for Shay to tell them she isn't into men.
"I heard she's a monster," Otis jumped in, "There's this guy I know over at 19, he walked with a hitch for a week."
Peter smiled as he shook his head and picked up the giant hose. "Nah, you guys are busting my balls."
"Listen to me, kid," Herrman began, standing up with his usual morning tea in a mug he held. "I just lost my house to foreclosure because I took a bath at the market. We're now living with my in-laws, which is two bedrooms shy of unpleasant. My wife won't take her birth control because the Pope said that if she did, God would cry, so I'm not having any sex. So, if there's any chance that I could live vicariously through you, it's literally all I got."
After a moment of silence a confident smile formed on Peter's face as he nodded, putting down the hose as he made his way over to Shay, who was cleaning the inside of the ambulance she and Gabby drove. Katrina watched the entire thing with an amused smirk on her face, grinning like a hungry wolf.
"Hey, I was wondering if you'd wanna hook up for a drink sometime?," Peter asked after a very painful 5 minutes of small talk. Katrina almost choked on the apple she was eating when she heard the question and Gabby quickly covered her mouth to muffle Katrina's laughter.
"Peter Mills, are you gay?," Shay asked rhetorically. The confusion on Peter's face made this scene even more hysterical to Katrina who was still having her laughter muffled by Gabby. Peter shook his head.
"Because I am," Shay told him, the group behind Peter couldn't take it anymore as they all bursted into a fit of laughter. Katrina basically fell into Gabby from how much she was giggling.
However, the fun moment between the first responders was cut short by Chief Boden. "Dawson, Shay." The chief looked between the two women. "Which one of you put a needle in the girl's heart?" The entire garage went dead silent as Katrina looked at Shay before her gaze snapped over to Gabby standing next to her. The happiness and teasing in the room had been replaced with a thick blanket of tension.
Boden signaled for the two EMT's to follow him and they did exactly as they were told, Katrina watched them leave. An audible sigh escaped her lips as she ran a hand through her hair.

Katrina sat at the long table in the kitchen, she had planted herself next to Casey as she dug into the food he had made for the squad. Casey had always been the best cook out of everyone in the station — next to Kat of course. She smiled as she listened and took part in a few conversations as she ate lunch.
Hours passed by and the sun started to set, this shift was longer, which meant Ash had to be picked up by a friend of Kat's, Natalie Manning. The two of them met when they were in highschool and have remained pretty close friends ever since (to the point that if you did not know them, you'd assume that they were dating). Natalie was there when Kat got pregnant with Ash at 16, and she was there for so many other things as well. So it wasn't a surprise that Natalie was willing to pick up Ash from school and look after him until Katrina's shift ended.
