Chapter 1: A Better Life

Katherine Mills was a financially struggling woman who resided with her alcoholic father, Ray. Ray had a strong inclination towards gambling and frequently squandered all his earnings. Katherine couldn't comprehend her father's fondness for playing cards, especially since he wasn't skilled at it. As the eldest sibling, Katherine had to work tirelessly to support her younger brothers, Luke and Ron, after their mother passed away while giving birth to Ron.

Luke got a job to assist Katherine with the expenses of bills and groceries. Katherine aimed for a better life and desired to attend college to secure a better job. However, her father believed that she should marry a wealthy man to improve the living standards of her family. But Katherine didn't want to marry a man solely for his wealth. She wanted to marry for love.

Ray has been lying about Katherine. He spreads rumors that Katherine is a witch to intimidate people and avoid paying his gambling debts. Katherine finds it distressing when her father lies about her because she fears the consequences of such false accusations.

Felicity was a wicked sorceress who targeted wealthy men and married them. Currently unmarried, she was responsible for all the household chores due to her mistreatment of the servants. She had a desire to kidnap a princess to take over the household duties, but was unsure how to accomplish this. Felicity had a history of unsuccessful marriages, as the men she married knew she was only interested in their wealth.

Prince Charles was feeling trapped within the castle walls. His parents, Queen Natalie and King Arnold, ruled the kingdom, while his aunt Queen Helen and her husband, King Eric, ruled Scotland. Unfortunately, Queen Natalie and Queen Helen were not on speaking terms due to a past disagreement, and Queen Natalie held a grudge against King Eric for her father's death. As a result, King Arnold and Queen Natalie strictly forbade Prince Charles from leaving the castle, fearing he might fall in love with someone who was not of royal blood.

Queen Natalie and King Arnold ruled with greed, imposing heavy taxes on their people. However, their son, Prince Charles, convinced them to let him go out, on the condition that guards accompanied him. Despite this, Queen Natalie allowed him to go out only if he refrained from interacting with the townspeople.
