Arsalan POV:
I run to the bathroom while Hiba and aunt (Airah mother) clean Airah. What happened to her? I quickly change my clothes and run downstairs to find everyone standing around Airah. My father looks very worried. Hiba has taken off her Abaya. I rush over to her, everyone gives me space as I sit in front of her. She's unconscious. I gently touch her wrist. When I feel her pulse, I start counting the number of beats in 15 seconds and multiply it by four to calculate her beats per minute. 8 beats. 32 beats per minute. Normal pulse range is between 60 to 100 beats per minute.
"Tariq go bring the blood pressure machine." I command. He rushes off quickly. Within a minute he's back with the machine. I check her blood pressure and its low. This might be the cause of her unconscious. I hope it's not heart disease. "Does she faint frequently?" I ask. "No. It's her first time." Iqra answers. Well then it might be because of the stress and tension. "I checked her up. But she still needs a trained doctor to examine her." I explain to Airah's father. He looks worried. I turn to Airah, pick her up and take her upstairs, to my room. My father shouts to the servants to bring a doctor immediately. Airah mother follows me to my room along with Iqra, Hiba and all. I lay her on the bed gently and turn to Iqra. "Stay with her." I say and rush downstairs.
Yasir and Ziya are standing with my father, Imran uncle and Waseem uncle. I walk over to them. "Alhamdullilah it's a good thing that it's her first time fainting like this. Agar ye aise hi frequent hota raha than I'm afraid it might lead to heart disease." (If this keeps happening frequently than I'm a afraid it might lead to heart disease.) I say. They stay silent. "Imran tension ki koi baat nahi in sha allah aisa kuch nahi hoga." My father says putting his hand on Imran uncle's shoulder.
"Janab!! doctor Saad aagaye hai." (Sir!! Doctor Saad came.) One of the staff comes and says. "Acha unko bolo ki mere room me jaye. Mein abhi aaraha hu." (Tell him to go in my room. I'm coming.) I say and turn to everyone. "Aap sablog yahi rahe mein dekh lu ga." (Everyone please stay here, I'll handle it.)I say and run upstairs with the doctor. I enter the room with Saad. Airah's mother is sitting on the chair besides Airah while Iqra, Hiba and Talbiya stand around her. As soon as they see me with the doctor, they get out of the room.
Saad sits on the ground and starts unpacking his bag. His father was our family physician. When his father died he took his father's place and now he has been working for us for 6 years. His skills are pretty good but his nature is not like his father. He's kinda arrogant. I haven't met him in the past two years.
"Pulse rate 40 per minute and blood pressure is low." I say. He looks at me with bored eyes then he nods and goes back to his work. He takes out his stethoscope and checks her heartbeat. Writing something on the paper he starts undoing her hijab. "What are you doing?" I ask. My voice coming out roughly. "I'm not doing anything. I just have to loosen her hijab so she will be able to breathe prope-" "I'll do it. Is there any medicine she should take or is there anything we should be worried about?" I ask leaving him mid-sentence. He looks at me with weird expression. "Is she taking too much stress." He asks. "Yeah a little bit." I say folding my arms. He nods and looks back at Airah and then turns to me. "That must be the cause of her fainting, there's nothing to worry much about. She's having a slight fever." I nod. "And if her fever rises give her these medicines...." he hands me a paper "....and make sure she wears nothing tight around her neck." He says. "Thank you." I say as we shake hands and he goes out of the room. A while later I get out of the room to find everyone in the exact same position. "Nothing to worry about she's fine. And abhi mujhe disturb nahi karna. Mein apne room me hi hu." I say and run back to my room. (Nothing to worry about, she's fine. And don’t disturb me right now. I’m in my room.)
I return to see Airah already awake staring out from the large window in my room. She's sitting on the bed, her hair falling around her waist. I shut the door behind me which causes her to look at me. Her eyes are red. Probably from crying too much. She looks away quickly. "Can you please bring me a hot pack of water?" She says in a low voice. I study her for a moment and then make my way to the kitchen downstairs. There are basically two kitchens in our house. One on the second floor and the second on the ground floor. The second floor kitchen isn't used very often.
I can feel everyone's stare at me as I put the water on the stove to boil. Then bend down to take out the hot pack. Their eyes following my every moment. Iqra comes and says, "Bhai me kar du?" (Should I do it?)
"Nahi me kar luga." (No I can do it.) I say and start pouring the boiled water in the hot pack. She stands for a while and then leaves. My father must have sent her. I run to my room and slowly open the door to find Airah already asleep. I sigh and close the door behind me. But where should I put the hot pack now? Is her back paining? Or is it her stomach? I put it on her stomach since her hand was there and sit on the chair beside the bed. I watch her for a while. Her smooth soft skin, her long lashes, her mid-lenght beautiful black hair. I had never observed her this closely before. But I have to admit that she's kinda beautiful.
