y/n's pov:

it's early again, i'm almost insane for being awake right now. it's five am. i'm in my bed, wishing i was fast asleep, but i'm not and i barely slept last night as it is. i haven't slept well for months. its summer. i love summer.

i should probably get up and take the dogs on a walk. like me, they are also early birds, which is only good because i'm also up. i change out of the unnecessarily large band tee that i sleep in (no pants, pants are overrated) and change into some shorts and a hoodie. i let pepper and shark out of my nana's room as quietly as i can, so i don't wake anyone else. they wag their tails excitedly, prancing around me because they know what's happening. i tie my hair up in a ponytail and put my shoes on. i'm leashing the dogs when i hear a soft knock at my door. i wrap the leashes around my wrists so they are secure and then open the door.

walker stands in the morning light, hair still messy from sleep. there are dark circles under his eyes like he didn't sleep either. he gives me a sheepish smile.

"hey."

i rub my eyes.

"what are you doing here?"

he frowns.

"rule two, remember?"

rightttt. the rules.

i chew on my lip and step all the way out the door, bringing the dogs with me. i unwrap pepper's leash from my wrist and hand it to him, showing him how to hold it so she's secure. we begin heading down the street.

for the first couple of minutes, it's mostly small talk, but then, out of literally nowhere, he says, "hey, so i'm heading up to the lake house tomorrow with momo and dior and aryan and all of them, and i was wondering, do you want to come?"

huh. i pull shark away from a bush that she's decided is super interesting. might do me some good, ok maybe a lot of good, to be out of the house. i just need to check in with my nana.

"sure. let me confirm with my nana, though."

he nods. we go back to silence. i hate silence, so i do what i do best. i talk.

walker's pov:

she's been talking nonstop for the last seven minutes. i'm not going to stop her, though. i think i really like listening to her talk. she isn't really talking about anything important, even though for some reason i'm finding that everything she says is important to me.
