"dancing with our hands tied, hands tied."

y/n's pov:
one year later~~
i am standing on the balcony of our airbnb in santorini, greece. my sundress swirls around my legs in the wind. i can't believe that i'm actually here. i'm looking out over the ocean, the waves lap the shore, hundreds of feet down. the sun warms my shoulders and my stomach is full. i feel so content here. it i could stay forever, i would. walker is somewhere inside, probably showering or something. we spent the morning walking around the city, picking up greek phrases as we went. it's our last night. we've been here for a month, but we leave back to california tomorrow. i'm definitely bummed. after four weeks of eating unprocessed, homemade, delicious greek food, running around in the sun with walker, and hiking the various monuments of greece in the order they appeared in heroes of olympus, we are going back.
speaking of walker, i hear him call from behind me, "y/n, where did you put that like fancy shirt that you made me pack? you know, the white one?"
i sigh, glance at the ocean longingly, and head inside to help my very clueless boyfriend find the clothes that he packed. i find him in our bedroom, shorts, no shirt. there are clothes thrown about everywhere. good gods, he just packed those. i lift up a pair of mismatched socks to dig the shirt out of the chaos.
"you mean, this shirt?" i dangle it in front of him.
he huffs, rolling his eyes, "i swear that was not there three minutes ago."
"rightttt." i say, drawing out the t.
he reaches out to grab the shirt from me, but i pull it out of his reach at the last second. he face-plants into the bed. i giggle, then i'm laughing so hard i can't breathe. he rolls over on his back to glare at me.
"you did that on purpose!"
"yeah, of course, wasn't it funny?!" i say through laughter.
"no. you're not funny."
my face falls in mock sadness and he immediately shoots up.
"noooo, don't be sad, i was kidding! i didn't mean it."
i'm laughing again when he pulls me towards him by the waist, swinging me around so i'm settled in his lap. he kisses me soft and sweet. i pull away to look at him. his cheeks are flushed and his golden curls are all out of place. his blue eyes are shining and his dimples are peeking at me from rose of his cheeks. i smile and then rest my head on his shoulder, arms around his neck. i close my eyes. we sit like that for a while, floating in each others presence, the silence is a warm blanket of sunshine on a windy day. then, he tucks my hair behind my ears and says in a soft voice, "can i pretty please have my shirt now?"
"do you want me to iron it first? it's got a lot of wrinkles..."
"yes, please," he kisses my forehead.
i slide off his lap and iron the shirt while he sits on the bed, watching. i hand it to him and he slides it over his shoulders and buttons it over his chest. then, he pulls on his shoes, stands up, and offers me his hand.
"shall we get going, m'lady?"
i snort and take his hand.
"we shall."
we head out of our villa and down the street towards the restaurant that walker booked us a reservation at. hands intertwined, swinging in between us. we get there and get seated, the waitress asks us what we want. we both order. dinner goes by smoothly. the food is almost better than it has been, but i think that's just because it's our last night here. when we're done, i eye him as he chugs the rest of his water and he gives me a "what?" look. then he stands up, pulls his napkin out of his lap, and says, "beach?"
i hop in excitement.
"yes! beach!"
once again, he takes me hand and we head out of the restaurant, thanking the hostess for another amazing dinner. once we get to the beach, we both slide our shoes off and leave them at the dunes, heading down towards the water. i let go of walker's hand to skip down the beach and plant my feet firmly in the water. i hear the click of a camera and turn to see walker holding his pink digital cam, taking a picture of me. i smile and he takes another. then, he pockets it and comes to stand beside me. we watch the waves roll in and out, in and out. the sun has set, but a thin line of light circles the horizon. the day is lingering. almost as if it's waiting for something. something to send it off on it's merry way around the globe. i turn to look at walker and see him already looking at me. his eyebrows are furrowed, but he smiles when i turn. i'm about to ask him "what's wrong?" because we're at the most magical place on earth and there couldn't possibly be anything wrong, when he pulls a small box out of his pocket.
a ring shaped box.
my jaw drops open so fast that i think it dislocates. i'm pretty sure a hear a pop.
"walker william scobell, are you proposing?"
he blinks, then lets out a nervous laugh, "no... it's a promise ring."
"so there will be a proposal."
"yes there will be a proposal, but you have to take the ring first."
"ok, buddy."
i hold out my left hand and he slides it onto my ring finger. i bring it up to my face so i can see it. its a beautiful gold/silver band, with a heart shaped (your birthstone) set in the center. it is so gorgeous.
"walk... is this like a real stone?"
"yes, of course. only the best for my girl."
his girl. i don't think i've ever smiled so hard. my face hurts. i love him.
"do you like it?"
"walker, i love you so much. and also the ring."
he smiles proudly. i throw my arms around his shoulders and i feel his arms slip around my waist. we stay like that for a while. i can feel his heart beating fast, he was nervous. that's so adorable. he pulls away to look at me.
"wanna dance?"
"yes."
and so, we dance, like the night will never end, like we'll always be here. twirling in and out of each other. dancing together, forevermore.
dancing with our hands tied.
