SHE SAT IN her at-home studio, trying to finish a song, but all she could think about was the meeting from yesterday. Most importantly, how rude that girl was. She acted like a true stereotypical athlete. She could never date someone like that, especially if it was fake dating. What was her name again? Ellie? It didn't matter. She didn't want to see her again, but she had to. Her manager was forcing her.
To make things worse, she was being forced to spend time with her. Maybe she could fake being sick like she did in school. That wouldn't work; like she said, she isn't in school anymore. There had to be something she could do to get out of this. At least she could get someone else to do it; anyone was better than Ellie at this point.
Ellie's manager said they'd stay in touch, but neither of them had said a word all day.
She's supposed to be working on her music, but she's just too distracted to work right now. There needed to be a change of scenery. Luckily for her, there was one place where she could go. She just had to tell her manager not to bother her for a while.
They were close enough that she could do that.
She made her way toward the front door with her phone in hand. She had just opened the door and walked outside when her phone rang. "Hey, Abby!" She greeted happily after accepting the call and putting it on speaker. "What's up?"
"I was just wondering if you were busy," Abby replied with a hopeful tone.
"I was just about to go to the ice cream shop around the corner if you want to go." She offered. She was quick to take it back since she had a better idea. "I'm just going to pick you up. I'll be there soon."
Once she ended the call, she sent her manager a quick text and then got in her car. She turned on her music and then made her way to Abby's location, which was the gym.
She had to talk about yesterday's events.
The two sat in the ice cream shop, enjoying their favorite flavors. Abby was letting her rant about the meeting from yesterday. Y/n just couldn't believe that someone, let alone her manager, would suggest something like that.
She never saw relationships as a way to gain popularity. She valued relationships. Since she became famous, that was the only thing that felt normal to her other than her friendships. A PR relationship was never something she imagined doing, but now she was being forced to participate in one.
She hated that she had to fake date one of the worst people on the planet.
"I just don't get it. There's no way this is necessary." Y/n complained before taking a sip of her milkshake. She didn't complain often, but this whole situation was an exception. "I never want to see that jackass' face again."
"It would appear that you spoke too soon," Abby said before pointing toward the line at the counter. That was when she saw her—the auburn hair and green-eyed asshole from yesterday.
"What's she doing here?" She asked her friend in a whisper.
"I don't know, but she's coming this way." The second Abby pointed it out, she saw as Ellie approached the table. They were in public, and there was no way she could be insufferable when there was a crowd.
"Look, I still think this is the dumbest thing ever, but we need any good thing that we can get," Ellie said as she sat down next to Abby, forcing her to move over to make room. "Both of us hate this idea, so we can get this over with faster."
Y/n hated to admit it, but Ellie was right. The faster they finish this, the faster they can go back to not knowing each other. "Why would I agree to fake date a jackass?" Y/n questioned curiously. She was going to get out of this; she just needed some time to figure out how she was going to achieve it.
"Because this jackass doesn't want to lose her job." She then realized what she said, soon realizing what she called herself. "I know you don't want to lose yours either."
"I'll think it over and get back to you on that."
"Alright, fine." She spoke with an annoyed tone. She grabbed a napkin from the table and a pen from her flannel pocket. She let out a sigh as she wrote down her number, soon putting it on the table in front of her. "For the record, I'm the nicest person once you get to know me." She added as she stood up and made her way out of the ice cream shop.
That was the worst lie she'd ever heard.Ellie sat in the living room of her expensive house with her friend Travis. They were playing video games and chatting about the things they'd seen people saying about her. She hated the idea, but she had to do it; she already tried convincing Y/n to agree to it, or whatever her name was.
She was just waiting to hear from her. Since they were tasked with getting to know each other, she ended up giving Y/n her number.
Her thoughts then drifted to the name Y/n had been calling her. Jackass. Ellie hoped that Y/n would realize that calling her that didn't make her any better than she was. She was going to bring that up next time it happened.
"Are you going to start the game or stare at the screen all day?" Travis asked her with a curious yet sarcastic tone. That was enough to bring Ellie back to reality and roll her eyes at him. "You've been distracted since I got here; what is your problem?" He asked with an annoyed tone, but Ellie knew he truly cared. It was an act he would put up with his friends. Ellie never knew why.
She never questioned it, either. That might explain it now that she has thought about it.
"Do you think I'm mean?" Ellie asked curiously and looked at him. She hated to even ask that question, but she had to know. "Be completely honest with me on this."
He had originally decided to lie, but now that she said that, he had to be honest. "Honestly? Yeah, I think you're a bitch, but I love you anyway." He answered with a convincing tone. He tried to hold back a laugh once he saw the look on Ellie's face, but he failed. "I'm just joking; you have your moments, but you're cool. Why do you ask?"
"Well, there's this girl my manager wants me to fake date for PR, and she doesn't like me at all because I'm mean. Her words, not mine."
"This girl just met you; don't take her opinion to heart. Who knows, you might end up like me and Taylor."
Normally, Ellie would find that reassuring, but she didn't want a relationship right now, or ever, for that matter. Her past relationships didn't go very well, and she didn't want to go through that again. "No offense, but no thanks. I can't handle another relationship. My schedule is too busy, and I just don't want one."
"Fair enough. Anyway, game time." Travis announced, causing Ellie to start their game of Madden. She wished she didn't have to do the fake dating thing.
It's still one of the dumbest things she's ever heard.————————
