Eric Cartman

The instant Cartman opened his eyes he saw Mr. Kitty, curled up at the edge of his bed, staring up with eyes the color of gold coins.

"C'mon girl!" he whispered. Mr. Kitty bounded forward and began eagerly licking his face.

"Hey! Take it easy" Cartman looked down at his Cat. Mr. Kitty had fur an eyes the same brownish gold color.

"You're going on a big trip today" he told his cat. "You won't see me for a couple of days. But you'll be okay. Really. You'll do great"

"C'mon Eric!" Mom yelled. "You don't want to be late! It's your last day of school!"

Cartman got our of bed. Last day of school. He repeated it over and over again. He was moving because his new Step Dad, was in the air force. Air force brats as they called kids like him.

Now his Step Dad was being transferred to Hickham Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii. Cartman didn't mind that. Hawaii was a place he'd always wanted to see. Moving would be a cinch if it wasn't for Mr. Kitty. And the quarantine.

When his Step Dad first explained about the quarantine, Cartman couldn't believe it. The military authorities wanted to prevent contagious diseases from contaminating Hawaii animals. They had strict rules: Any cats coming into Hawaii had to be quarantined, kept away by itself, until they were sure the dog didn't have any contagious disease. Mr. Kitty would be locked away for four months.

"That's crazy! Mr. Kitty doesn't have any disease!" he told his Step Dad.

"I know. But the military makes the rules, and we have to follow them. They can't take any chances. There's no exceptions" he explained.

"Well, that's the stupidest rule I have ever heard!" he yelled.

"I know it will be hard on you, but it will be even harder on Mr. Kitty. Do you really want to put your cat through all that. I know you love it, but maybe you should think about giving it away" his Step Dad sighed.

"Leave her here? Are you kidding?!"

"I'm sure we can find a family who could take care of her"

"No way! I want my Mr. Kitty!"

"All right then"

In the kitchen his mother was standing on a stepladder, taking plates from a cabinet. There were boxes everywhere.

"Got anything to eat, Mom?"

"There's cereal" she said "Shredded wheat"

"Shredded wheat" he groaned "Why don't they just call it shredded newspaper?"

"This isn't a restaurant" she retorted "We don't have anything else"

Whistling his Step Dad walked into the kitchen, he was wearing a crisply ironed uniform, hair neatly combed back and gleaming.

"Is your room all packed?" he asked.

"No"

"You need to do that first thing after school" he said "We've got to be completely packed tonight. We're leaving tomorrow morning at 0-dark-thirty"

"Okay" Cartman poured a bowl of shredded wheat. Mr. Kitty sat on the floor watching Cartman shovel the cereal into his mouth.

"What time does Mr. Kitty's flight leave tonight?" he asked dad.

"Six sharp" he answered.

"I'm coming to the airport" Cartman said picking Mr. Kitty up "You'll get to Honolulu first, you lucky kitty"

The phone rang and before anyone in his family could get to it, Cartman reached across the table and picked it up, holding it against his ear.

"Yo Cartman" it was Craig Tucker, one of his good friends at school.

"Hey, what's up?" Cartman asked.

"Not much" Craig said "I'm staying home today. Bad stomach ache. I was thinking you might have one, too. Do you?"

"I can't" Cartman said grinning "It's my last day"

"I thought your last day was Monday"

"My Step Dad changed his mind" Cartman didn't really feel like explained. "I have to pack my stuff right after school"

"Okay, It's your funeral!" Craig chuckled "Don't blame me if you die of boredom today"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah whatever" Cartman rolled his eyes on the other side of the phone although he knew that Craig couldn't see him doing such a thing.

"Hey, I guess I won't see you before you move. Have a nice life" that was the last thing Cartman heard Craig speak before Cartman whispered into the telephone softly and sadly "Yeah, you too" before quickly hanging up the phone before Craig could hear the change in the pitch of his voice, because he was crying.

Yeah, you too.
