Following a few days of straight rain with no break, the morning of the fundraiser finally arrives.

"Okay, Art- you're on skillet duty. Cora, Stephanie, I need you plating dishes. I'll take care of the coffee and I'll clean up as we go. Did anyone put those fliers up on the door of the cafe?"

"Already taken care of." Stephanie answers while she ties her long black hair back into a ponytail. "I also included directions to the fundraiser, not that anyone would need them."

"True, but you never know. Great job." You respond. "And don't forget, all bid winners get a gift certificate for a free meal, even if they didn't bid on our item. Everyone ready?"

Your team is clearly excited and nods enthusiastically, ready to get the day started. You all break to set the tables and food up, and you help Art with his skillet. He is sweet as always, more concerned by the idea of not wanting to occupy your time than by getting the help he needs, but you insist on helping him, as his arthritis makes it hard to get the propane set up.

"We've got to get you an electric skillet, Art." You say, wiping your hands on your apron.

His face lights up with a warm smile. "I assure you, I'm doing just fine with the propane one, hun."

"An electric one would be much easier on those hands."

"Yeah," He grunts while leaning down to turn the propane on. "Maybe. I don't want to create any trouble for ya'."

"It's no trouble." You respond, unpacking one of the coolers that Art's ingredients are in. "I can get an electric one ordered this week."

"Hey, Y/N?" Stephanie approaches again, opening up the binder you'd left on the table and flipping through the tabs. "What's our bid item again? The fundraising manager is asking."

You lift up the heavy container of pancake batter with a grunt, gently setting it on the folding table. "The certificates for bid winners are on the left side of the binder and the right side has the big prize if you want to pass it along to her. It's a certificate to book the restaurant out for a night, and it comes with a five-course meal that Art put together. The idea was like, a date night kind of thing."

"Cute! Perfect, I'll give it to her."

"Thanks Stephanie!" You say over your shoulder, pulling out the tablecloths that Cora had helped you pack tightly into the crate last night.

"Need a hand?" Someone asks from behind you.

You turn around to see Waylon standing behind you, removing his brown jacket and setting it on the empty table next to yours.

"Hey, you! That'd be great- thanks." You answer as Waylon approaches the other side of the table. You grab two corners of the tablecloth and Waylon grabs the other two- you both fluff it before draping it across the table and tucking the corners underneath you.

"Big day for the town, huh?" He asks, following you to the next table to set up its' tablecloth.

"Sounds like it. What's your take on this whole new-park-thing?" You ask, certain that everyone's got an opinion in this town.

"We could always use a good recreational area." He comments, fluffing out the next tablecloth. "That trail's gonna be a good one- do you hike?"

"Nope."

"Just fishing, huh?"

"Pretty much."

"You and Charlie seemed to have a good time the other day." He says almost suspiciously, seeming to hold back an expression.
