Author PoV:

You sit by the bed, slowly chewing on the pie you'd baked out of boredom a few minutes ago. You steal a few glances at Lucifer's resting figure, and to be honest it was oddly wholesome to watch the King of Hell sleep.

He seemed so at peace.

You pull your phone out to check your messages. You scroll through the thousands of forgotten/scam contacts - like who the fuck is Emily Däankensteimer? You're about to delete her number as well when you hear the creaking of your old ass bed from beside you.

Turning around, you see Lucifer sleepily rubbing his eyes as he sits up.

"How're you feeling?" You ask, your phone long forgotten in your lap.

"Better." He croaks, nodding tiredly. His eye bags had disappeared, but it still looked as if he could collapse right now. You scan him up and down, before eventually nodding.

"... sooooooo, since I'm never going to make a deal, how about we be friends." You propose, fiddling with the hem of your shirt awkwardly. He nods, though a little sheepishly. You sigh, relieved that he didn't kill you on spot for the dumb suggestion.

He gets up, stretching.

"Well, I have to go now..." his mood instantly turning bitter at the thought of going home and having to talk her. He erupts in flames, singing the hems of your sleeves and making you fall out of the chair in shock as he dematerializes into shadows before disappearing.

You look at the place he once was standing in, shell shocked.

Meanwhile with Lucifer, he'd appeared in his kitchen - the same one from the fateful day he'd discovered of his wife's affair with the mystery man.

Speak of the devil - wait sorry, the devil's wife - Lilith walks in, rubbing her eyes 'innocently' as if she'd done nothing wrong last night. Lucifer holds back his anger and gives her a forced smile as he starts to prepare breakfast.

Lilith smiles back, not noticing the unsettling sickly sweet aura that surrounded him.

"Good morning, dear." She says, kissing him on the cheek. His eye twitches ever so slightly in disgust and annoyance, but like most of the things, Lilith doesn't notice it.

"Morning..." he replies after a while, using all of his will to stop himself from doing anything deranged to her. He didn't understand emotions, but he felt a weird sense of... betrayal...

He quickly finishes breakfast, plating it and handing it to Lilith. He slowly takes a bite out of the food silently, his eyes wandering around the walls of the dining room. He'd memorized every nook and cranny, he knew every shadow of every hour, he could walk around completely blinded and manage without getting injured.

He never acknowledged those details until now.

Like with Lilith.

He never noticed how distant she was becoming, he never noticed how glued to her phone she was, he never noticed... anything. About anyone.

[ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED:  D E P R E S S I O N]

The next morning, mom had come home. Yay... you tried to avoid her the entire day, key word being tried. She'd get you to do her bidding even if you were hiding in the deepest pits of hell. She'd just casually dig you out to make you vacuum or something.

"YOU BRAT, I USE ALL MY MONEY ON YOU!" She yells, after she'd found you trying to finish your homework silently in your room. Not only the fact that you were trying to finish your mandatory academic work, but also that that was a complete lie. She used all her money to buy alcohol and go to parties, leaving you to fend for yourself using the limited amount of money you'd gained via part time job.

"Mom-" You start before you're immediately cut off.

"JUST DO YOUR JOB OR FUCKING ELSE." She threatens, holding a sharp piece of glass up. You shudder at the sight of the glass, (un)officially having gained PTSD from the previous... experience.

"Y-yeah o-ok." You finally relent, still quivering under her gaze, which was almost as sharp as the glass shard in her hand. Holding back tears, you stumble towards the door, pulling it open in hopes of getting away from the insane woman you were sharing oxygen with.

You grab your old tattered purse, not bothering to fix your hair as you hurriedly head to the cafe that you worked at. Yes, when mom told you to go work, she meant go to work. Even if it wasn't your time to be on shift, mom wanted the cayush, so it's either you get her the cayush or you die.

Sorry, that mood switch was too sudden wasn't it?

Anywho, you finally arrive at The Candied Cafe, the place you worked at. You push open the door, trying to remain composed despite your knees feeling like jell-o. Nate (your coworker) gives you a look that was clearly exasperated.

"Y/N, it's not your shift yet. Was it her again?" He was concerned, evidently, but he was also getting worked up. He had second hand anger from the whole situation. He was angry at you for not speaking up, he was angry at your mom for being delusional, but most of all, he was angry at himself. How could he call himself your best friend when he can barely help you?

You come, bruised and cut, and still manage to smile and help him.

You give him a curt nod, heading to the employee area to inform your boss that you were early (again.)

You thrust your pair of keys in, pushing open the heavy metal doors, a plaque reading 'employees only' hanging over said doors.

You're about halfway to boss' office when someone suddenly materializes in front of you. You quickly come to a screeching halt, not wanting to be burnt by one of your coworkers handling a pot of coffee carelessly (wouldn't be the first time) only to look up and see...

"Lucifer?"
