Beep beep. The sound of dread as the alarm goes off at a little past two in the morning. That meant another day of adulting and pushing ourselves to deal with life. I thought as I hit the stop button on my phone. Laying there I tried to find the energy to haul myself out of the big comfortable king bed that took up most of my apartment bedroom. An undesirable sigh passing my closed lips as I sat up and threw my legs over the side of the bed. The cold air of the fan hitting me. Only a few people in the world I swear sleep with a fan on. For me it is soothingly to hear the running sound of the fan and a slight cold breeze feels amazing to fall asleep.
I slid down the tall bed as it was a little high for my five foot two self to reach the floor. The frame of the bed gave it a good two feet off the bed which brought it about stomach high. My feet finally hitting the plush carpet I blinked a few times to force my eyes to adjust before turning on the light and wincing at the warm brightness now in front of me. Then realizing that most of the laundry was still in the basic from the night prior as I had done a load in the wash since I had almost run out of clean pants.
I walked directly across the hall into the tiny sized bathroom. The washer and dryer sat directly behind the door along with a cat box for the two feline friends in my life to do their business. Across against the other wall was the throne, sink, and a small stand that held my ever growing bath and body works addiction. Which also mixed with some hair supplies and other need materials. The back wall held the off yellow tub that desperately despised, but for this size apartment for this price I could not beat it so I sucked it up.
Reaching into the laundry basket that sat atop the dryer I grabbed some leggings, a long sleeve shirt, a red lace bra, the bottoms to match and my fuzzy socks. This will do. I thought to myself as I made my way back across the hall to the bedroom. Stripping off my shorts and tank top from the night prior and throwing on the clean outfit for the day. I tossed the clothes from the night before into the washing machine and made my way down the hall to the kitchen.
There delightful little meows from the youngest male black cat of the house Prince came as he let me know it was treat time. The oldest cat Storm a male gray Maine coon sat there glaring at the younger letting him know it was not necessary to be so loud this early. Our daily ritual at this time though was treat time and these two knew it.
After getting everything together for the day it was time to haul myself to work. I worked at the local hospital as a pharmacist. I had just completed my schooling and was offered the job at Chesapeake Regional Memorial. Chesapeake was a city off the east coast of Virginia. Not too far from Norfolk and just a half hour travel to Virginia Beach which I loved as the ocean is one of my favorite places. Something about water had always calmed me.
Tossing everything into the passenger seat of my 2018 Black Jeep Compass as I closed the door and started the engine. I was lucky that my drive to the hospital was not very far. It was roughly ten minutes on a good traffic day. I lived near the end of Newton Creek road near Roosevelt Memorial park which was in my backyard. One warm days I walk the path that splits through the never ending shrubs in my backyard to the park to sit against a tree most days and just lose myself in a good book.
Pulling into the first level of the parking garage and shutting off the engine. I lay my head on the steering wheel for a moment before I pick up everything from my passenger seat that I will need for the never ending day. Finally I open the car door and exit the Jeep. Walking to the elevator I hit the button to my floor and as I ascend to my destination I lean my head back on the elevator wall contemplating how the day will go.
