2. Olivia
"Our father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in Earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them who trespass against us. And led us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen."
Olivia stood up. She flipped her hair over her shoulder, trying to make herself look somewhat presentable for college. "Right." Olivia pranced into her bathroom checking to make sure the light makeup she had put on didn't look ridiculous. Olivia had always been told by her father that makeup was the devil's instrument to lead people into sin, but after a recent conversation with him about "growing up", Olivia now had the freedom of putting on a dab of lipstick, mascara, and a modest amount of blush. Olivia almost forgot to put her cross on before she left. She ran into her room hooked the chain around her neck and got into the car with her father.
"You look nice today." Olivia's dad said starting the car. It was still pretty warm outside but Olivia still dressed in a comfortable amount of clothing.
"Thanks, dad." Olivia focus all of her attention outside the car window, to avoid an awkward conversation with her father. They hadn't had the best relationship and every time he would try to talk to her, he would end up making her feel guilty, or quoting The Bible. One of the two.
"I know you're growing up, Olivia but that is just more incentive for me to crack down. Temptation becomes so much harder to deal with at this age. You probably know what the kids in your school are doing. I want the best for you. You know that right?"
"I know, dad."
"For your sake, I hope you understand." Her father looked away from Olivia and focused back on the road.
The rest of the car ride had been silent. Nobody talked, nobody moved. The music wasn't even on. Olivia took some time to shift to her left. She really didn't want her dad to continue to tell her what was right and what was wrong. Olivia knew what was defined as a sin and what wasn't. He was just wasting his breath.
Olivia had never done drugs, drank alcohol, or had sex. She had kissed a guy in secondary school; ONCE! She immediately prayed for forgiveness, to please her father. Olivia didn't know what happened to people when they died, but she did know that God would untimately decide who would achieve salvation and who would simply be sent to the pits.
Sometimes she wondered the prices that came with salvation. She really couldn't do anything with her friends. She was always the voice of reason. Never had she ever faltered in her faith. If anyone knew anything about Olivia it's that she would be following God's word twenty four seven; it was as certain as the sun rising in the morning and falling in the evening. Nobody really knew what drove her to do so. Olivia didn't even know what drove her religious faith but it's all she really held on to. She knew, even if things got bad, she would at least be saved.
After the completely silent and awkward daily car ride with her dad, Olivia's father pulled up to Roundivew; dropping Olivia off in front of the college. "Bye, sweetie. Have fun today!"
"Will do." Olivia shut the car door and stood outside the entrance of Roundview. Before walking into the school, she touched her cross and prayed for a safe day at school. Roundview had a different feel about it. It was the second month and everyone had been pretty much settling it into their respective schedules and settling into a certain social group. Of course, Olivia had a few friends. Those friends were all included in her history class, which was her favorite class of the day.
Olivia needed to get to her locker before she went to English. Her locker wasn't as decorative as all the other girl's lockers but it had it's own style to it. That "style" wasn't really a style at all but more of a reflection of herself. She had a picture of her, Julio, Stephen and Clare at a lake party that they went to. It was so much fun. It was fun for Olivia at least, because it was her birthday party, which meant that there were no drugs, no booze and most importantly no sex.
