It has been raining nonstop since the start of August. The roads were all but covered in glistening puddles of rain water. The streets were empty save for the vehicles running about side lane. It was a picture of perfect tranquility as the cool wind permits the night. The earthy smell of petrichor hangs in the air, bamboo trees bending ever so slightly over the deserted roads, hindering the lackluster light of the moon.
Anina was running fast. Her school uniform was dripping from the rain earlier, it was such an inconvenience to go home this late. She thought about going back in her school and ask Mrs. Limera if she could stay the night. But the thought of leaving her grandmother alone in their home made her changed her mind. And so in the middle of the night, with the flickering street lights as her only companion, she made her way home.
She hope to get there fast, but her soaked uniform and the slippery road made it hard for her to run without the prospect of her falling face first on the wet asphalt. She yelped when she stepped on a pointy rock and almost lose her footing. Anina forced herself to stay upright but a sudden force crashed behind her making her completely lose her balance.
Anina landed harshly on the ground, she used her elbow to shield her head from smashing strenuously. It will surely leave a bruise. Ignoring the pain, a flare of annoyance rose in her chest. Just who in their right thinking would attack a helpless school girl? Sure, her country wasn't the safest in Asia, but the crime rate isn't that high either. And besides, there were no reports of any incident of kidnapping and murder in their town.
She turned to see her perpetrator when she felt a sudden chill in her veins. Whoever behind her, Anina knows wasn't a normal person. The energy they were emitting was strange and repugnant, almost stifling. It made her skin itch and her head dizzy. Anina felt like fainting.
Not a moment later, she felt a cold hand settled on her shoulder, the coldness of the contact made her skin shudder in a dreadful way. It was like being submerged in a pool of icy waters.
" I've found you, at last, Hikari uta."
A deep, dark voice said and Anina fell to the damp floor unconscious.
