I was sucked in a state of sleep that is particularly peaceful, considering the circumstances. It was a shame that it got interrupted by the sound of a door opening. I kept my eyes closed, afraid that whoever entered this room was not here for the right reasons, and it would be far better to pretend as though I was still asleep. My breathing grew heavier as I heard faint footsteps approach the bed, and I knew I wasn't doing a very good job trying to convince this individual that I was asleep. It wasn't until I heard a quiet, feminine voice, that my body relaxed.
It wasn't Romeo, but for some absurd reason, I had wished it was.
That sounds so pathetic.
"Miss, you need to wake up." The woman said, placing her hand just above my elbow in attempt to wake me. I lazily opened my eyes, trying not to make it too obvious that I had been up and just pretending to sleep. I was met with a middle aged lady, one that had short blonde hair and an apron on. Considering she was dressed in uniform, I automatically knew she was one of Romeo's maids. "Mister Amato would like you to be downstairs after you have bathed and gotten dressed." She explained calmly, not even the least bit fazed by the blood stains on my dress.
I lightly shook my head, "I would kindly like to decline." I propped myself up on both elbows, but she only ignored my objection. Instead, she walked over to the locked door and pulled out a key, unlocking it to reveal exactly what I assumed the other room to be. A bathroom. Who in their right mind locks a bathroom door?
"It's not a suggestion nor is it a request, Miss." She says dryly before bringing in a wardrobe that was filled with all different pieces of clothing. To my surprise, they were actually decent clothes and some I'd even consider wearing. "You can pick whatever article of clothing that hangs here, and you will have undergarments in the closet along with other clothes in the bathroom." It seemed as though this a typical day for this lady. She didn't care for the fact that her boss was locking up women, and I had a chilling feeling that I wasn't the first. Or the last for that matter.
"And I wasn't suggesting that I cared. You can tell Mister Amato I'd rather die than ever have to face him again." I spit venomously, though I couldn't help but feel bad for speaking to her this way. I knew it wasn't her fault, and yet I still spoke to her as if it were. She turned to face me, a look of disbelief flashing through her hazel eyes, but that wasn't what worried me most. It was the deep, masculine voice that chimed in shortly after that caused my breath to hitch in my throat. It being none other than the Devil himself.
"Tell Mister Amato what?" He asked, his tone carrying a hint of amusement in it, as though he found it comical that I'd speak of him this way. He must have been listening just outside the doorway because it wasn't long before his tall, muscular figure appeared in the doorway. He wore a tight black tee that emphasized his strong arms that were covered with tattoos. His blue eyes, intense and terrifying.
I didn't respond. The sight of him practically took away my ability to speak, and I wasn't being subtle about the fact that he had the power to affect me in such ways. I open my mouth, but nothing comes out. Absolutely nothing. Romeo glances at the maid who looked just as terrified by his presence and nodded towards her. She took that as a hint and quickly scurried out of the room. Not forgetting to clothes the door behind her, leaving me in a room, alone, with Romeo. "Speechless now are we?"
I nibbled on my bottom lip, embarrassed that his mere presence made my heart race uncontrollably. I was supposed to hate this man. "Though you must know, here you're not given an option. Everything I say goes, unless you want to things to get unpleasant." He monotones, as he took a few steps forward, bringing himself to a halt when he was just right beside the bed.
