"You look absolutely stunning, Jisu. I'm so happy for you," Yeji said as she stood behind her best friend who was staring at her wedding dress in the full-length mirror in front of her.
Jisu focused on Yeji through the mirror. "And how are you doing?"
"We've been over this. I'm fine."
"You don't look fine." Jisu shook her head. "I mean, you're fine as hell. But you look sad."
"I'll be okay. I promise."
Was she going to be okay though? She had no idea what had happened with Ryujin. One day things were perfect and the next they were just being cordial to each other, exchanging texts here and there out of habit more than anything.
Maybe what was happening between them always had an expiration date, and Ryujin wanted that sooner rather than later. Maybe she thought her ex could offer her something Yeji couldn't.Yeji chastised herself for what had to be the millionth time this week. If she had just been honest, maybe Ryujin wouldn't have found the need to look elsewhere for what was lacking. She wondered how long whatever this was had been going on between Ryujin and Heejin.
As if reading her mind, Jisu said, "Soobin doesn't think there's actually anything going on between them. Ryujin was kind of quiet about her reasoning for bringing her, but he really thinks they're just friends."
If they were just friends, why would Ryujin bring her along to this wedding where she already had a somewhat date? Except that was just it. Yeji had never even taken her on an official date. For all Ryujin knew, she just saw her as someone to have sex with, but that wasn't the case. She was so much more than that. Right now, she felt like everything.
"Ladies, it's time," the wedding planner said from the door.
Yeji smiled at Jisu. "Time to marry the love of your life."
"Best words ever," Jisu said with a grin wider than any Yeji had ever seen on her face before.
Yeji lined up behind the three other bridesmaids and right in front of Jisu. Soon, they were directed to the doors outside of the chapel. When the doors opened, Yeji's eyes immediately went to the five people already standing at the end of the aisle. Okay. That was a lie. Her eyes went to one person in particular-the beautiful girl standing right next to Soobin.
Ryujin's floor-length black gown looked absolutely breathtaking on her. Its cut was high enough to be classy but low enough to have Yeji's mouth watering. As Yeji walked down the aisle, she couldn't take her eyes off of Ryujin. She wished more than anything that things could be different and wondered if they still could. As she got closer, Ryujin's eyes met hers and it was like those brown eyes were seeing into her soul. She wondered if she could see how much she wanted her; how her heart completely belonged to her and how it was killing her to watch it slip away.
Yeji had to look away. She couldn't keep staring at Ryujin or she was going to lose it. She let herself get swept up in the wedding ceremony and when she cried, it was tears of joy for her best friend.
But the end of the ceremony brought the march back down the aisle and that meant walking with Ryujin. They met in the center and Ryujin put her arm out for Yeji to take. As soon as they touched, all of the feelings Yeji had spent the week trying to convince herself weren't as strong as she thought, came flooding back. She wanted to confess all those feelings then and there, but that would have been wrong. Ryujin was there with someone else, and Yeji was not that kind of girl.
Still, she leaned close to Ryujin to whisper in her ear. "You look extremely beautiful today." Just a harmless compliment.
Ryujin closed her eyes and took a deep breath then sighed, but when she opened her eyes back up, she gave Yeji that winning smile. "As opposed to every other day?"
