"Remember. No bets tonight. No foot races across the beach. No shot for shot competitions.
We're all going to be on our best behavior," Soobin said as he looked at himself in the mirror and straightened out his bow tie.Ryujin rolled her eyes at her best friend. Sure, she and Yeji weren't subtle in their competitiveness, which had somehow ramped up even more since that night in the bar, but she wouldn't do anything to ruin this night for Soobin.
"Come on, man, you're my best friend. I've got your back. I'm not going to do anything stupid.
I promise."Soobin ran a hand through his hair as his face turned red. "I know you're not. I'm sorry. I'm just so nervous."
Ryujin rested her chin on his shoulder. "You have nothing to be nervous about. You should be excited. Jisu adores you. This is going to be the happiest night of her life, all thanks to you. You'll propose, you can call everyone and tell them, then we'll celebrate by getting completely-" Ryujin stopped herself from saying hammered when Soobin gave her a warning look. "Then we'll celebrate by drinking a completely respectable amount of alcohol."
"I know, I know. You're right. I just want tonight to be perfect for her." "The love of her life is proposing. It will be perfect."
Soobin's phone went off and Ryujin watched him fumble around with it until he could finally hold it still enough in his shaky hands to read the text. "Okay. They are just finishing up with dinner now. Yeji said they should be out on the beach in about ten minutes, just in time for the sun to be setting." Soobin looked up at Ryujin and nodded his head, clearly trying to exude a confidence he didn't feel. "That's our cue. Let's go."
As they walked out of the hotel and onto the beach, Ryujin caught Soobin checking his pocket that held the ring multiple times.
Ryujin patted him on the shoulder and nodded her head toward the photographer Soobin had hired who was hidden off to the side. "You got this. I'll be right over there."
Soobin walked farther onto the sand and smiled at something off in the distance. Ryujin followed his line of sight and watched as Yeji said something to Jisu then pointed toward Soobin. Jisu seemed rightfully confused and Ryujin couldn't help but laugh as Yeji had to physically push her in Soobin's direction.
Ryujin must have caught Yeji's eye because she began walking in her direction. The closer she got, the drier Ryujin's mouth became. Yeji's black dress left nothing to the imagination. It was skin tight, stopped inches above her knees, and the neckline dipped unfairly low.
Ryujin hated that her body was having this reaction. When she caught Yeji checking her out in the airport, she felt like she had the upper hand. But ever since the club and that dancing that neither of them had acknowledged since, it seemed like she was no longer in control.
"Nice to see you, Ryujin. My eyes are up here by the way." Ryujin quickly moved her eyes from that plunging neckline up to Yeji's face, which was wearing the stupid smug grin once again. Damnit, she'd been caught.
"I'm pretty sure when you put that dress on, you had no intention of drawing attention to your eyes."
Yeji put a hand over her chest. "Wow. That was almost a compliment."
Great. She had really done it. Yeji would never let her live any of this down. "Don't let it go to your head. It can't afford to get any bigger."
"Just for the record, I could totally come up with a thousand witty comebacks, but I have a proposal to watch."
Ryujin tore her eyes away from Yeji and looked across the beach just in time to see Soobin go down on one knee. Jisu threw her hands over her mouth, then began to jump up and down before jumping right into Soobin's arms. Ryujin's heart warmed at the sight. She was so happy for her best friend. He deserved this moment and she was so glad she was able to share it with him.
