A week passed faster than Emeric had wanted it to. He tried his best to see Aurora at least once a day. However, he spent most of his time in extensive meetings with his admirals and advisors. It seemed endless, all in preparation for the transfer of power and the coronation itself, on top of trying to find out more about the events leading up to his father's death.
Emeric found himself standing in front of the mirror like he did every morning. All that looked back at him was a simple man, a prince but a simple man. However, today he was forced to see a king. He lifted his head and looked at his face from side to side. No matter what angle he saw himself from, it still didn't look right. If he felt this way, how would the people feel?

Aurora found herself regretting that she had agreed to take the healer up on his offer to be his apprentice; he was honestly insufferable, yelling at her for the littlest things she'd get wrong.
Even with the quarrels they both shared, by the end of the week, Aurora had actually learned a thing or two, taking over responsibility for her father's care with the reluctant approval of the healer. Two bandage changes a day and three separate applications of ointment to his chest and wounds—easy enough? Thankfully, the maids helped bathe him, as Aurora couldn't stomach it.
She had been so busy, but still, she found herself noticing Emeric's absence. She'd shared secret dinners with him and a few lovely strolls through the snow. Something was different about him, however; he wouldn't talk about it, but his upcoming status change was weighing on him, making him a bit moody, though her smile usually cured it. She didn't know how much she could cure him today.
"I said the oil, not the paste! Are you trying to kill the man!?" The healer seethed in frustration, causing the old baker, Mr. Marsh, who had only asked for help with his toothache, to look up at the two of them terrified.
After leaving the home of the baker, Aurora sighed, taking her share of the coins they earned. "You know, if you call me a ditz one more time in front of someone that's asked for our help, I'm going to knock you out and quit," Aurora warned in a way that left the healer questioning if she was serious.
"Oh, come on now, lass... it's a part of the gig," he laughed, looking over her shoulder to see a familiar face approaching.
"That man who always watches you is coming," he leaned in to whisper before Aurora turned excitedly, thinking it was Emeric, though it was only Theodore. Still, she smiled, leaving the healer's side.
"There you are. Emeric has a gift for you waiting in your father's chambers. And no, he wouldn't tell me what, so you'll just have to see for yourself," Theodore's words made Aurora groan.
"Why is he even worrying about me? I told him today is his day! That boy, I swear." Aurora turned to wave to the healer, but he was already gone.
