"AMY?"
I look up from the book I'm reading at the sound of my name and arch an eyebrow at my mum, who's holding up two different shirts.
"Which do you think goes better with these slacks?"
I lazily glance at the lavender shirt and the pastel pink one, then shrug. "Dunno, just wear black."
"Really, Amy? It's a party, not a funeral."
I shrug insouciantly, returning my eyes to the book, but Mum comes up to me and closes it.
"Come on, Amethyst, stop being like this. Your mood has brought everyone in the house down, nobody can smile around you anymore. Can't you at least be a little lively?"
"Mum, how do you expect me to be fine when I barely know how long I have to live? None of you knows how it feels, so stop telling me to be lively! Just leave me alone!" I grab my book and storm past her into my room, ignoring her shocked gasp and hurt look.
Once I'm in the room, I lock the door behind me and toss the book onto the nightstand, then fling myself onto my bed. After a good scream into my pillow, I roll over on my back and glare at the ceiling, still wondering how God could let this happen to me.
Just then, my phone begins to buzz. I pick it up and frown at the notifications: 12 missed calls and about a million texts from Blaze and Grayson. I frown and swipe open the most recent text.
Tyler: Hey you.
Me: What?
Tyler: So you just chose to ignore our calls and texts?
Me: What do you want, Grayson?
Tyler: Can you come over to Blay's?
Me: What for?
Tyler: Just do it.
Me: Not unless you tell me why.
Tyler: Please don't make me.
Me: Bye then.
Tyler: Okay, fine. We just want to watch a movie with you.
Me: That's why you guys want me over? No thanks. I have a TV and a Netflix subscription here, I'm good.
Tyler: Oh come on, Amy. We haven't done anything together in forever.
Me: And?
Tyler: Honestly? I feel like I don't know you anymore. it's been so long since I saw you genuinely happy. Just come over, please. You can leave right after if you're not okay.
Me: Fine. Be there in ten.
Tyler: Thank you, Amy.
I reluctantly roll out of bed and wash my face, change into a more suitable outfit, grab my purse and step out of the room. Mum pokes her head out of her room at the sound of my footsteps. "Oh, hi. Where to?"
"Blay's house," I mutter, stepping out of the house without waiting for her response. It's not like she'll feel bad or anything.

"Ooh, Amy's here!" Leilani squeals when the doorbell rings. Before any of us can answer it, however, Amethyst strides in.
Blaze comes out of the kitchen at the sound of the door opening, at the same time that she enters the foyer and faces all of us.
