We're packed together in the small living room of Billy's house. Jacob and I sit on the couch with Billy rolled up next to Jacob on my left side. Three of the five boys are here also, standing in front of the coffee table. I recognize these faces, the three from the night Jacob was sick. None of us have changed clothes, and Jacob and I are getting the couch wet from our rain on clothes. The only thing keeping me warm, other than Jacob at my side radiating heat, is a towel wrapped around my shoulders.
Billy has been eyeing me the moment we entered the house, not letting go of the sternness even after Jacob explained the situation. I still don't know what this imprinting means, but it's apparent that it is very important for all of them since Billy allowed us to stay and sit.
"Can you tell me what happened to you?" Jacob asks. He doesn't seem to even care that the other three are here now. His eyes are set on me, his lips straight, and his body is slightly turned towards me.
"I already explained. After I escaped the hospital, the doctor was going to have the police question me for the silly-ass story you guys came up with for my injuries," I glance up at the three. They are unmoving even after my comment. "I got jobs here and there, but never made enough money to stay anywhere so I often slept next to trash cans and in jungle gyms. What money I did get I used to buy food and to travel back here."
I pause to assess everyone because I know what I am going to say next will be unbelievable to them. Jacob's right hand holds my left hand and I feel his grip tighten.
"Well....After a short bit something happened," I sigh. "This is going to sound crazy - but I was being stalked by a vampire. He followed me to each city I would end up in...."
"A vampire?" Jacob growls. His eyes dart to Sam. "You took her away and she was chased by a damn vampire!"
Sam raises his hands up in defense. "It's not like we knew she was going to be followed by a vampire."
My breath hitches in my throat as they speak, realizing that they believe me about the vampire. I remember when I told Jacob about my vision in the bathroom - about the monster that killed my mother - he didn't seem like he believed me. But a vampire? No, they believe me on this.
"Continue, what happened?" Sam asks.
I am a little thrown back that Sam is the one to ask me to continue but I nod. "When I reached Seattle, the vampire chased me through the city until I got lost in the alleyways. He said his name was Giovani and that he was sent here to get me for someone. He didn't say who, but he also said that I was a demi-god."
I notice that Billy's eyes widen the slightest from the corner of my eyes. Sam also looks surprised by this new information but he quickly hides the surprise by holding onto an expression of seriousness.
"A demi-god? Yeah, right," the one I remember as Jared says. He rolls his eyes and crosses his arms much like Sam.
"How else would you explain the ability she used on us?" Sam asks, looking at Jared.
