--Chapter Twenty Five--

I opened the door to see Cameron dressed in a black tux, and his hair quiffed. "Wow! You look nice." I smiled. "Thanks Payton...not too bad yourself." He smirked. "Are we leaving now or?" He asked standing outside. "Yeah we will leave now." I said. I shut all of the lights off, walking out my door locking it. I unlocked my car, I climbed into the driver's seat starting the car. Cameron got in next to me, taking a deep breath. I backed out of the driveway, pulling out of my neighborhood. I drove down the road a little looking for the funeral home, when I saw it. I sat up a little pulling in. There were lots of cars and I had to park in the grass. I shut my car off getting out. Cameron followed close behind me, "Don't make fun of me if I cry." He winked. "I won't." I giggled. We walked in and many people were crowded around something, I figured it was my mom's casket. I fixed my hair looking around, I didn't recognize very many people. My dad walked over giving me a quick hug, "Your mother is up there." He said pointing towards the crowd of people, I nodded. "Hello Cameron." My dad said patting him on my back. "Good evening sir." He said nodding. I walked towards the group of people as Cameron followed me. I saw Kelsey walk in...there were people behind in front of her, she stopped and talked to my dad for a minute then hugged him. We were next up to see my mom, I took a deep breath rubbing my hands together. My palms were sweating terribly. The lady moved revealing my lifeless mother to me. I gasped covering my mouth, to keep from being too loud. Cameron grabbed my waist to support me, I turned around laying my head on his shoulder. He looked at her, starting to shake. I could tell he was crying. He pushed me, making me walk towards our seats. He sat down, and I sat down next to him controlling myself. "I can't do this..." I whispered. "Payton you have to. Keep it together for your dad, I know it's hard but try." He said gently. I grabbed his hand intertwining my fingers with his, "Payton..." He started. "I don't mean it in that way." I said staring up at the front. Kelsey walked over sitting down next to me, "Hi Payton." She whispered. "Hi." I smiled weakly. She cleared her throat looking down at Cameron and I's hands, "It's just to keep me calm." I whispered leaning close to her. She nodded her head sitting back in her seat.

My dad walked up to the front of the stage, clearing his throat. "Good evening. We are here in the memory of Gracie Anne Bentley. A mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, sister or friend. We all remember her as someone important to us, someone who was there when we needed help or care. I would like to start off with my speech, and then have my daughter Payton come up." I widened my eyes, not expecting to speak. I squeezed Cameron's hand, "Payton calm down. Just say what you loved about her, ok?" He whispered close to my ear. I nodded my head listening to my dad speak. "I miss my wife more than I can say. She was the absolute love of my life, and no one can replace her. She was beautiful, unlike any women I have ever seen." He paused clearing his throat, taking a deep breath. "Gracie was trustworthy, and caring. I remember being able to tell her anything and she would listen. When she left that night to go grocery shopping, I stayed home. That was the last time she talked to me. She was killed instantly in the impact of the head on collision of the semi. They said that-" He stopped clearing his throat again. "The doctors said that she didn't feel any pain. I love her, with my entire heart. I would like to turn it over to the closet thing I have left of her. The one who resembles her...my beautiful daughter, Payton." My dad nodded at me stepping off of the stage. "You will be fine." Cameron whispered rubbing my back. I stood up walking towards the stage, hugging my dad and walking up onto it. "Good evening. Um...just like my father said. I love my mother very much, she was always there for me, always. We fought sometimes, but that never meant I didn't love her. People say they hate their parents, but they never realize how lucky they are to have them until their gone. When my father showed up at my door step saying she passed...my heart stopped. My whole life was changed forever. I remember one time my mom and I were cooking, and I was standing on the little step stool because I was too short for the counter. I tried stirring the cake mix and I tipped it over dumping it all over me and the floor." Everyone laughed quietly, and I smiled weakly. "No one can ever replace the women my mother was. I wouldn't be the girl I am today without her. She taught me everything there is to life...I miss her every day. I hope she looks down on me and watches my success as I go, and I hope I make her proud. I love you mom..." I finished stepping off of the stage. I hurried to my seat sitting down. "Don't cry it's ok...it's ok Payton." Cameron said grabbing my hand. I shook my head, as my bottom lip quivered. I started crying as silently as I could, I laid my head on Cameron's shoulder trying to hide it. "And now we will head out for the cemetery, for the burial." My dad said. I got up quickly, followed by Cameron and Kelsey. I ran to my car unlocking it sitting in the back seat. "Kels you drive. I'm going to sit back here with her." Cameron said getting in next to me. Kelsey nodded sitting up front. I curled my legs under my butt, laying my head on Cameron's shoulder. He wrapped his arms around me "Just act like I'm Niall if it helps." He chuckled. I smiled weakly shutting my eyes.

"Payton...come on." I heard Cameron whisper shaking me gently. I opened my eyes, scooting out of the back seat. I stood up fixing my pants, and hair. I took a deep breath, walking through the grass to where everybody was standing. I maneuvered through people getting up to the front with Cameron and Kelsey. Music started playing slowly, as her casket came, carried by two men. Her casket was white, with light pink flowers on top of it. My dad handed me a couple flowers, along with everyone around me to lay on her grave. My dad started talking but I wasn't listening. I stared at my mother's casket, as tears welled up in my eyes. Cameron shook me a little signaling for me to take my flower and put it on her grave. I walked up setting it down gently, "I love you mommy." I whispered letting a tear roll down my cheek. I wiped it away walking back over to Cameron. "You may all come back to the house for dinner, and chat if you'd like." My father announced. People nodded heading for their cars, "I'm going to head home daddy. I'm exhausted." I said hugging him. "Alright sweetheart. Wait, why did, is it Niall? Not come?" My dad asked. "He had to fly back home. He would have came but he was already back before I even knew." I said. "Oh bummer. Well love you hunny. Bye. Thanks for coming Cam and Kelsey!" My dad smiled weakly walking away. I frowned slumping my back a little walking towards my car. "Bye guys! I'm going to take my car." Kelsey smiled. "Yeah bye." I smiled weakly. Cameron waved walking next to me. I climbed into the passenger seat, not wanting to drive. Cameron climbed in next to me, starting the car pulling away.
