Chapter 34
Catalina
"Yeah no I'm not doing that with you."
"Oh come on, Sal, indulge a girl."
Salvatore stared at me blankly from across the table, and I knew he was searching for the right words to provoke me. "My cock constantly wants you while I can barely tolerate you," he told me plainly, narrowing his eyes before taking a huge bite of one of his triangles of burnt toast, almost eating it whole in one go.
Bingo. There he was and in true Salvatore fashion of course.
"Such a poet, Sal," I laughed, knowing it would irritate him. "So I'm growing on you?"
"I said I tolerate you...barely," he cut his honey brown eyes at me and I rolled mine at him. I didn't believe a word he said. Not about this anyway.
Leaning over the table I closed the small gap between us. "So, tell me something mystery man," I brought a hand to my warm mug of coffee and tipped the corner of my lip upward, slowly tracing a finger over the rim of the cup as I looked up at him through my dark hooded lashes. "Do you often stalk women you can barely tolerate or am I just getting the special Salvatore Ricci treatment?"
I took my time giving special care to his name, pronouncing it in his native language. I let it roll off my tongue slowly like I was tasting each syllable as it left my mouth. He groaned in appreciation, watching me intently. "See, growing on you," I laughed, wiggling my eyebrows, knowing I had won, and he cursed, grunting something in Italian under his breath—him knowing it too.
"And me you?" He asked, nonchalantly.
"Honestly, I want to jump you just as badly as I want to punch you in the face. Not really sure what that means," I told him only half truthfully.
"You want coffee with that," he pointed to all the empty cream and sugar packets. "What are you five?"
"Hmm," I hummed, bringing the lukewarm cup of coffee back to my lips and drinking it down. "Screw you. It's fucking incredible."
"Probably not as good as your breakfast," I said, eyeing his half-eaten plate of food, and my stomach growled almost on cue. "But it will do."
Sighing under his breath he muttered something else in Italian that I couldn't understand before sliding his plate over to me."Eat."
My mouth watered, looking down at his offering and rather than argue with him about not being hungry. I dug into it. He was right. I hadn't eaten anything besides breakfast and two protein bars on the drive back from the range. I was starving.
The sound of a deep chuckle pulled my attention away from the delicious greasy food. "I lied," Salvatore told me, licking his lips and drawing my hungry gaze to them as I licked my own. "I like you better when you listen."
"Please, you love that I fight," I told him between bites. "Gives you a reason to fight me back and keep those demons sated."
Salvatore stared at me for a long while with an unreadable expression before clearly his throat and looking down at his watch. "Wrap it up. We have one more stop before home." It was like he had somewhere else for a moment but I decided not to question him on it. Instead I took my phone out to check the time.
"It's 4am, Sal."
"I know so hurry up," he deadpanned and I rolled my eyes, taking the final few bits of food before tossing my used napkin into the plate.
"Fine, let's go," I told him hurriedly
sipping the last bit of warm sugary liquid down without argument. I was too tired to go another round."Here you go, darling," Charlene walked over, handing Salvatore a to-go plate. "I put a few extra pieces of cherry pie for you and your pretty friend," leaning down she kissed him on the cheek, and my mouth fell open in shock. "Be nice to her you hear."
