chapter one

Rose's POV

The way the sun shined down on the boys skin seemed to have me in a trance that i could not brake. Not that i wanted to brake it, I just don't wanna look creepy if he turns around and sees me staring at him. But the way his curly hair just sit on the top of his head, his smile that makes everyone smile. Archie is one of a kind... to me at least.

"I would stop staring if i was you" My sister said from behind me.

"it's getting kinda weird." She jokes. I roll my brown eyes and turn to look at her.

"Yea, but i don't stop you from eyeing down Daryl, do I?" With that her smile drops and snaps her head to look at me with a blank stare.

"mhm, not so funny now is it?" I say with a smirk on my face.

"You know what? How bout i go over there and tell Archie bout how you like him and want to braid his hair. Hm?" Estella teases.

I've always loved braiding hair. I used to braid my friends hair for free because it was starting to get expensive and I would always ask. My mother used to say I was the best on the block. But now that the world has gone to shit, I don't have anyone's hair to do, but my sisters.

"I mean you and tell him how i wanna do his hair, but you don't gotta tell him that i like him, cus then you just being petty and u know that i can get petty." I say with a small smile, not thinking she would drop what she's doing to go and talk with him

"Ok then" She says as she starts to run over to where Archie was siting. In a panic I turn to look off into the distance acting like nothing was happening and my face wasn't red. After a while i turn back to look at the two, stella was on her way back up and he was smiling and looking my way. I smiled and waved.

"what did you tell him!" I ask her with my face burning red.

"I told him, how you like to braid hair, and how your are getting tired of doing mine." she said with a smile. "and how you've been wanting to ask him to do his, but are too shy to ask yourself."

"what did he say!!" I ask as I grab her shoulders

"First of all, get your hands off of me. Second of all he said to give him an hour then you guys can sit down somewhere and do it." she says as she pushes my hands off her shoulders.

A hug is all i can give her. "thank you stella."

she wraps her arms around me, giving me a small squeeze. "girl you know i would do anything for you. You family, we gotta stick together. Wrong or right"

Time skip

Everybody was sitting around doing there own thing when the radio started to go off. Dale being the close picked it up and started trying to listen to what was coming throw.

"hello base camp-- Can anybody out there hear me?" Me and Estella got up and walked closer to the RV to hear what was going on.

"Base camp, this is T-dog. Anybody hear me?" Dale picked up the radio trying to speak back

"is that them" I turn to see Loir standing by carl. I never liked Loir, when we first got here she was rude for God knows why. On top of that shes fucking shane and think the rest of camp don't know bout it. Well at least me and estella know about it.

"we're in- deep shit, we're trapped in the department store." the radio spits out in one go, making it hard to hear. I turn to look around but my eyes land on archie, as he stands on the side, he opens his mouth to speak.

"he said they're trapped" he repeats in a thick British accent. I block out the rest of the world around me as I stare at Archie as i watch one of his curls fall onto his forehead.

My attention is brought back to the conversation when amy takes off running down to the lake. I look back at Archie expecting him to still be on the sidelines, just for him to be right next to me. I look up at him in shock, I start to feel my face get hot.

"oh hey, what just happened?" i ask him with a confused look on my face. He turns to look down at me and smiles

"hey, shane doesn't want to send anyone out there to go help them, so when amy told him how andrea volunteered to go for the group, he reminded her about the risk she took. My best guess is that Loir went to go talk with her." Archie explains to me with out braking eye contact with a grin.

"wow, I mean I knew Shane was an ass but i didn't think he was that bad." I said as I glanced at his lips.

He smiled and nodded him head and looked around.

"Do you wanna go sit by the lake and you do my hair?" he asked as he scratched the back of his head nervously. My heart jumped and I nodded my head.

"yea, just let me go get my things and i'll meet you over there." i say. He nods his head and walks backward slowly still looking. I smile and walk back to my tent once he turns and starts walking to the lake.

I unzip my tent and start looking for my hair stuff. All i really need is my comb and moose. I turn to leave my tent but stop at the sight of shane standing in my tent.

"whacha doing there girly" he says with a smirk

"getting some stuff" I say with an uneasy feeling in my stomach

"What stuff" he ask suddenly interested in what i'm doing

"Stuff to go braid Archies hair." I say not liking how he blocked the only way out. He was going to say something else but stopped with the sound of foot steps. Archies pokes his head inside the tent.

"everything okay in here officer" Archie ask with angry look on his face. Shane turns to look at him and pauses.

"yea, yea everythings okay. Me and Rose here, was just having a talk. Ain't that right Rose?" He speaks but I don't hear, I was too nervous.

"hm, oh yea, he was just asking me about something all good here." I say with a very nervous smile. Shane nods his head at me then at Archie and leaves. I let out a breath that i didn't even know I was holding.

"Are you okay? I saw him walk up to your tent, and came to check on you." he says with a low voice. I just nod my head. He walked over to me with open arms. I was so dazed that i didn't notice how he held me close. I rested my head on his cheat as I lean into his embrace.

"Is it okay if I do your hair tomorrow, it's just-" Archie cuts me off

"its fine, you don't need to explain yourself to me." He says in a light whisper making my heart swell, and puts a warm feeling in my stomach.

We both look out the tent with a confused look as the loud sound of a car alarm going off in the far distance.
