chapter four

Rose's POV

As I sit in my tent, I look for my old ankle brace from the first time I hurt my ankle. I look up at the sound of my tent opening to see Estella walking with my brace.

"Though you might need this." she smiles as she bends down to put it on me. 

"Are you going with him?" I ask lowly know that she was gonna go with Daryl to find merle. As much as I don't want her to go I know that I can't stop her. 

"I gotta be there for Daryl, if Merle happens to not be there." she says when shes done with the brace. I nod understand how she feels. she taps my leg and pulls me on my feet. we hug before we walk out of my tent. I follow behind her with my hair stuff and listen in on Shane yell. 

"-Why? Why would you risk your life for a douche bag like Merle Dixon" he say as he walks up to Rick, clearly upset 

"watch your mouth" Stella say as she stands next to drayl. 

"oh, I did" he shoots back at her "Douche bags what I meant" before going back to talking to Rick.

I scoff and flick him off before leaving to find Archie. "i'll see you guys later" I say giving Daryl a side hug and hugging Stella.

I walk down the hill to the little late that rest by the edge of camp as I watch Archie sit by the water throwing rocks 

"Whach doing?" i ask once i reach him and sit down beside him

He looks up at me as i sit and licks his lips, "just thinking" he says

i mush his shoulder "bout?" i smile as i look out at the water. 

"how the world sucks." he say as he fiddles with a rock. i look at him before i get up and move to sit on a some what big rock. 

"come here so i can start on your hair" i say as i pat the rock between my legs as i grab my comb from the bag.

By the time I'm finished parting Archies hair and doing the first cornrow, Shane and Carl are on the other side of the lake trying to catch something, and the girls are sit by us doing laundry as we all talk. 

"stop moving ya head" I say as I move his head back to facing forward. he lets out a sigh and stops moving. 

"I'm sorry, you agreed to let my do your hair. so let me do it" I say as as I tie the end of the first braid, before I pull his head back to I can do the next. 

"Can someone explain to me how the women wound up doing all the Hattie McDaniel work?" one of the girls ask as she puts down another basket of dirty laundry (I forgot her name)

"the world ended" I say turning to look at her, my smile drops as I see Ed leaning on his car watching us.

"Yea, didn't you get the memo?" Amy jokes as she watches a shirt.

"just the way it is" carol say lowly as she puts the now clean pair of pants in a different basket.

"yea, but it shouldn't have to be" Archie says from his spot on the floor. 

"Amen" I say shaking my head as I work on the braid. The girls start talking about things they miss and it makes me realize how much I miss some stuff too

"I miss my father. Me and my sister were coming out here to surprise him but the word went to shit." I say as I move on to the next braid. 

"I'm sorry" Amy say as she looks at me with a sympathetic face. 

"its ok, I doute he's dead but you never know" I say appreciating her but not wanting it to seem like I want pitty. 

"I miss my Playstation" Archie says pitching into the Convo. I laugh and go back to his hair.

"I miss my vibrator" Andrea say as she scrubs a shirt. we all stop and look at her with a smirk but Archie covers his ears. I giggle at him and put my hands over his. 

Carol looks over he shoulder to look at Ed before going back to works. "Me too" she spits making us all laugh loudly at her and how Archie looks at her shocked.

"what's so funny" Ed ask, killing the mood. I shake my head and put a clip in the braid I was working on as I feel Archie shift to watch the man. 

"just swapping war stories, Ed" Andrea say as she faces him. the air grows awkward as Ed watches us. I tune out a little as I fiddle with them hem of my shirt. I get drawn back into the world as Andrea gets up and throws a wet shirt at Ed.

"Ain't my job, miss" he say as he throws at back at her. with that me and Archie get up.

"Andrea" I warn as she gets closer

"what is your job Ed?" she ask getting upset "sitting on your ass smocking cigarettes?"

"sure as hell ain't listening to some uppity smart-mouthed bitch" he say before looking at carol "come on, lets go"

"she's not going anywhere with you" I say stepping in front of carol as she gets up

"and its none of your business. Come on, now" he say motion for carol to go over there.

"please, it doesn't matter" carol say as she tries to stop me from not letting her go. Andrea turns to grabs her shoulder

"hey, don't think I won't knock you on your ass, just 'cause you're come college-educated cooze." he threatened as Archie pulls andrea behind him so he stand in front of all us.

"now come on, or you gonna regret it later" he say as carol tries to go again

"so she can show up with fresh bruises later, Ed?" the girl ask with her hand on her hip. "yeah we've seen them" she spits with anger. he laughs at her before he tries to drag carol away. As we try to stop him he smack carol across the face causing Archie punch him in his face knocking him to the ground as he keeps going. As i see shane run over with his face red i quickly pull archie off of ed. 

"ARCHIE STOP" i yell as he finely stop and lets me pull him away. I watch as Shane goes to town on Ed causing carol to sob as she watched her deadbeat husband get beat up.

"SHANE THATS ENOUGH" i yell as i a hold Archie back from going back at Ed. 

"You put your hands on your wife, your little girl or anybody else in this camp  one more time I will not stop next time. Do you hear me?" he says as he puts a finger in Eds face holding up up by his shirt "Do you hear me?" he say more aggressively as he grabs Eds now swollen and bloody face. Ed does his best to say yes but it comes out slurred due to the swelling. 

"I'll beat you dead, Ed" he say as he delivers on least punch to his face before letting him go and getting up. 

Andrea lets carol go as she runs over to Ed and cry's, apologizing for no reason. I stare at Shane in shock as he walks away from the lake leaving a bloody Ed and a crying carol.

Estella's Pov (bet you didn't see that coming)

As I run up the narrow stairs hot on Daryl's tail as we wait for T-dog to clip the chain that holds the door shut. The momante he chops the chain daryl kicks it open.

"MERLE! MERELE!" We both shout as we rush onto the roof, only to be meet with blood on the floor with his hand sitting there. 

"NO"  Daryl yells as he starts to walk away. "NO" he walks back to the hand and he continues to yell. I walk up too him as i place my hand on his shoulder. he shoves me off at first but with my second attempt he let me bring him into a side hug as tears pool in my eyes.
