I make a turn down the street. Driving past the bus stop, I see a familiar face which I haven't seen in about two weeks. I roll down the window and slow the car down.

"Hi Steve. How you doing today?"

"I'm feeling fine. I haven't seen you in a few weeks."

"Yeah, about two. I been really busy."

"It's okay."

"Happy you're wearing all the winter things I got you."

"Happy you got them for me."

I smile.

"You're welcome. What's been going on at the house?"

"It's been rough. He's just been yelling at me but nothing physical."

"What time are you suppose to be home?"

"What's the time?"

"Five something."

"Shit! I need to get home."

I start thinking of ways to save his ass... This might be a crazy idea....

"Steve get in the car really quick."

He gets inside. We drive down to his house.

"My name is now Mr. Okonma, got it?"

"What?"

"I'm... I'm going to pretend to be your teacher. I'll just come in acting concerned so I can see your dad. I could also give the police a chance to search your house."

"Not sure about the second part but the first part happened. He was calm for about... a day."

"Let's see his face this time."

We arrive to his house. We get out the car. An older woman with a small grey afro, pink sweater and jeans, gets out of her car. Steve runs toward her and into her arms.

"Hi baby, how have you been?"

"I'm doing great grandma! How about you?"

"Been doing fine, thanks for asking baby."

She rubs his head. He grabs her hand and takes her to me.

"Who's this?"

"My teacher! Mr. Okonma."

"Hi Mr. Okonma, I'm his grandmother."

"Nice to meet you finally. He talks about you all the time."

We shake hands. Her hands are super smooth.

"Aw I know he does that's my number one grandson in the world."

She kisses his head. He smiles brightly.

"He's pretty amazing."

"What brings you here?"

"I've had some concerns with him lately, I just wanted to talk to his dad."

"Let's all walk in together."

"I'm fine with that."

His grandmother approaches the door and knocks. He answers.
