The death scythes gathered in Shinigami-sama's chambers were already on high alert. Before them, the tiny Medusa stood in chains, her head bowed in reference with a smirk on her face. This gathering of soldiers was more reminiscent of a witch trial than a peace summit. Though the witch didn't mind. The more people who bore witness to her pleas, the easier it would be to get what she wanted. After all, giving up a wanted criminal's location was a huge barganing chip, she needed to make sure she was paid in full.

"Absolutely not!" Spirit exclaimed. "Shinigami-sama this is obviously a trap!" Medusa held up a tiny hand.

"Hush now, the grownups are talking." Medusa stared Lord Death in the face."Do we have a deal?" The shinigami was uncharacteristically stiff in his motions, doubtlessly aware his little followers were judging their every move.

"What makes you think I'll let you lead the mission in Arachne's castle?" Shingami asked gravely. The witch smirked.

"You don't have any other options." It wasn't her fault that Shibusen enjoyed sending children onto the battle field. Reguardless of who accompanied her, she needed miesters to act as her body guards if she ever hoped to break through Arachne's defenses. The more confusion they could stir up, the greater the chance of success. It made sense to work together, but trying to appeal to an emotional immortal was no small task.

"Fine." Shinigami-sama towered over her. "...On one condition."

The following night, two enemies worked in tandem to infiltrate the maze-like depths of Arachne's base of opporations. Sneaking in was the easy part, with so many new recruits coming in, it was easy to blend with the crowd. The real trick was to avoid getting noticed by someone in Arachne's closer circle. Her informants were unpredictable and volitile, liable to cause a scene the moment they noticed something was amiss. It didn't matter how useful Medusa's information was, because the person Shinigami put in charge of the opporation was, surprise, a child.

Granted, Maka's talents for viewing the souls of anyone within close proximity was useful, no doubt. But the young girl telegraphed every thought on her face, and right now, she was livid. Maka's group brought up the rear of the invasion force while Ox and the others followed their leader closely. The scythe miester couldn't help but spare seething glances over her shoulder at the child-like witch. How could Shinigami-sama let Medusa of all people on this mission? All the adults had avoided her questions as if ashamed, leaving her with vague, nothing answers. She wanted to ask Kid; but had a feeling if he knew, he wouldn't tell her.

"I can feel you glaring at me," Medusa said coolly. "if you have something to say, then say it." The witch brushed past her and pointed down another stone hallway. She tapped her tiny foot as she watched each miester follow her instruction down the winding path. Maka hung behind, unable to hold her tongue any longer.

"You have a lot of nerve trying to order us around." Maka spat. "I know you tricked Chrona into spying on Shibusen, and if that's not enough, you kidnapped her from the people who actually loved her! Then you had the gall to turn around and demand to lead the mission-"

"You're mistaken." Medusa followed after the group, standing tall. "If you recall, it was Shibusen who banished my daughter. When that happened, I waited with open arms for her to come home," she couldn't meet Maka's acusatroy glare, "but she never came." Her tone was so soft and mournful Maka couldn't fuel the flame of her anger. She tried to remind herself this is Medusa, a known manipulator. A shape-shifting witch that chose to remain in the body of a child during a time of impending war. "I may be nothing but an object of fear to my daughter, but I am a mother above all else and no mother wants to be separated from their child. That's why I need to lead this mission, Arachne has my daughter."
