It was bad enough that I had to go to summer camp in a random town right before summer break.

So I can make 'friends' She wanted me to make friends or something, I guess. I snap back to attention when i hear my name. "Maxine?" My mom says. "Yeah?" I respond shaking my head. "We're here." She says.

I open my car door and grab my backpack. "Okay see you in..." I say, trying to remember how long this stupid thing is. "One week." My mom clarifies.

"One week." I say hopping out of the car and shutting the door. She pulls out of the small dirt lot, leaving me stuck in this shithole for the next week.

"One week." I mumble angrily before starting towards the main office to find out what the hell im supposed to do. On the short walk over I see four boys. One of them is staring at me.

The others are rolling their eyes at him. I ignore them and keep walking, I have red hair and freckles that stand out on my pale skin, and I'm not very pretty, so boys don't usually look at me.

I get up to the front office and knock on the glass panel. "Hello?" I call. An old women with curly hair looks at me through the glass and then snuffs out her cigarette on a small ashtray.

"Yes?" She says to me with an annoyed tone to her voice. Which is dumb because it's her job to help us. "I um... what bunk am I in." I ask.

My backpack is getting heavy and I really just want to set it down. "Name?" She says, looking down at a sheet of paper, which I'm assuming has the bunk assignments.

"Max. Max Mayfield." I tell her. A girl walks up behind me. I guess she doesn't know where to go either. Her brown hair sticks to her neck and her chocolate brown eyes are bright.

She's looking excitedly around her. I guess she's never seen a fucking tree before. "Maxine?" She says. "Yeah." I say distantly. I'm still looking at this girl.

"You're in bunk 29." The lady at the counter says snapping my eyes away from this girl and back to the glass panel. "Okay..." I say as I hike my bag up higher and walk away to find bunk twenty nine.

I over hear the brown haired girls conversation with the lady and can't help but try to remember her name. "Name?" I listen carefully trying not to obscure my hearing.

"Jane Hopper." She says, and I walk away smiling. I hope I run into Jane again. I can't help but walk around for a bit before finding my bunk. But when I do find it the sun is already starting to set.

I open the door and it slowly creaks open. When I look inside I see four boys. "What the hell?!" I say confused.
