It had been around fifteen minutes since Matt was held back by Mrs Hartmann. Reo took his place back on the springy mattress that he woke up on, where as Max sat on the very edge of it.
There was a prolonged awkward silence, both refusing to speak to each other. The only noise that was heard within the room was Max's leg anxiously bouncing from time to time.
The brunette sweatdropped, realising Max wasn't going to speak to him. Not unless he did so first. Reo figured out that Max did seem like quite an introverted boy.
"......Do you think he's oka-"
"-I don't know." The grey haired boy replied, before he could even finish his sentence. Reo deadpanned at the lack of social skills Max had. Either that, or he was just extremely concerned about his friend. Reo just had to assume it was the latter.
As if on cue, the door handle moved, making the two boys perk up with hope. The blond boy waltzed into the room, a large smile on his face like nothing even happened to begin with.
"False alarm, guys! Everything's okay.. I hope.." He assured, letting the door shut behind him.
"Matt! Thank goodness you're okay.." Reo sighed in relief. "What was that all about..?" He asked, hinting towards the blond being held back for an unexplained reason.
"Ah, that... Well, I've got some good news and bad news.." He started.
"...What's the bad news?" Max hesitantly asked, narrowing his eyes.
"Well.. I-I was practically ordered to give Mrs Hartmann Reo's name, and well.. I think she's informing Mr Hartmann that you've woken up, as we speak." Matt admitted, staring down at the floor in attempt to avoid eye contact.
"..."
Both Reo and Max looked over to each other with similar expressions, before looking back at the blond.
"And, the good news..?" Reo urged on, a slight hint of hope in his voice. He hoped that at least the good news would balance out the bad.
"....There isn't any good news. I just wanted an excuse to say that cliche phrase.." Matt sweatdropped, guiltily rubbing the back of his neck.
An irk mark appeared on Reo's head. "Matt..! I thought you said everything was okay?!"
"I know! I-I'm really sorry, Reo! I panicked! I just didn't know how to break it to you!" The blond stuttered, holding his hands out in defence.
"You're hopeless, Matt.." Max rolled his eyes at the blond boy.
"Actually, wait a minute.. I might just have a plan." Reo admitted, as he scratched his chin, deep in thought.
"Really?! Thank goodness! What is it?!" Matt sighed in relief, his guilt slowly fading away.
"You two did previously say that Mr Hartmann wants every child to look their best for their auction, right..?" Reo asked, gaining a nod from the duo.
"Well, yes.. But how does that relate to-"
"Perfect!" Reo exclaimed, clasping his hands together. "So, let's say a child just so happened to get injured before their auction.. What would happen, then?" He asked.
"Well... My guess is that Mr Hartmann would delay the auction until the injury is fully healed?" Matt asked.
"Exactly!" The brunette pointed out, as he grasped onto Matt by his shoulders, pulling him in closer. Their faces were practically inches apart, as a pink hue appeared on the now confused boy's face.
"R-Reo?!" He managed to sputter out.
"Matteo.." Reo trailed off, his face slowly getting closer to the boy.
"I need you.."
"...To punch me in the face."
