──────  three years earlier...

'TEN, ELEVEN, TWELVE...' The brunette girl who is supposed to be Allisons mentor for this first week of university counts the amount of students that turned up for the first tour. 'Thirteen! Ella, we've got everyone!'

'Fantastic. Welcome everyone to your first year at Queen Mary University of London. My name's Ella, this is Charlotte...' Ella pointed to the girl next to her. 'We both study English literature, so it may incomprehensible to you that we have been assigned to be your mentors, but no psychology majors signed up to do this.'

'That may or may not have something to so with last year's batch of psychology students causing a fire in the science department, but I'm excellent at secret keeping so I guess you'll never know.' Charlotte joked.

'Let's start with introductions.' Ella pointed at Allison.

'Umm... I'm Allison, or Allie, both is okay.'  The 18-year-old blonde who was about to start a new chapter far away from home had not yet mastered the art of self confidence yet, not the way she would in a few years time. 'I'm from Sheffield, so quite far up north.'

'Welcome to London, Allie.' Charlotte smiled.

Allie's back hurt like she was an old woman that did something other than laying on the sofa all day. And the cause was the painting that she had been working on for two weeks now.

It was her day off bartending at Baileys, the pub where she worked. So, naturally she spent all of her free time at Mrs Whitehouse's studio. It was a true paradise for painters, sculptors and spatial artists. She had earned the privilege of being able to work there because she had tutored her son Ollie for years, ever since Allie lived in London. The studio was truly a safe space, and the mother and son had turned into her friends.

And she could use friends in this stage of her life. Having dropped out of college after studying psychology for a year, her only true friend was Charlotte, but she had moved back in with her parents in Bristol after she graduated and her boyfriend broke up with her. That sucked for Allison, but the drop-out was determined to stay in London, for more reasons than just her parents. But that was the main one. And after all, many artists were destined for a life of solitude. It made them productive.
