Allie was over at Charlottes and Ella's dormitory, which was in the same building as hers. They shared a small apartment that was made especially for students. It was small, but cosy thanks to Charlotte's decorating skills.
It felt really comforting that she had made friends already, even if these girls were a little bit older than her. Their wisdom had actually already helped her, explaining everything about the lecture halls and strict staff members who she should avoid.
And after she got used to Ella's thick Irish accent, the girls got on like a house on fire. They were both more extraverted characters, whereas Charlotte was also social, but also a bit more shy.
Both studying English lit, Ella wanted to get into publishing and Charlotte wanted to be a writer. She also uploaded videos to YouTube, but that didn't really take off and she was considering stopping altogether to save face. But she loved rambling about books, so something in her heart told her not to.
'I hate reading.' Ella sighed, throwing her copy of Madame Bovary on her bed.
'El, it's a bit too late if you only discovered that now.' Charlotte handed her her tea.
'300 pages before tomorrow? Aldington has actually lost the plot. It is Thursday, we should be getting smashed right now.'
'Now that we're moms...' The other girl pointed at Allison. ' We should be setting a good example.'
'Talking about getting smashed. When is the Matthews family barbecue? It is September, after all.'
Every year, Charlottes family organized a barbecue and all the cousins, including Charlotte and her sister, got to bring friends. Her parents lived in a farmhouse in Bristol, so the kids would stay up all night and all slept over.
