Dragging my feet out of the library, I was finally free! Archer kept me in for an additional hour thirty because I missed one stupid question. Thankfully, he got sidetracked when he saw a cute girl walk in, like moth to a flame. I took the opportunity to slip away, thank you random girl. I figured since I didn't have any classes today, I figured I would spend the rest of my day in the kitchen, preparing for my upcoming lab.

About to swipe my card to get into the main building, I can't help but peek through the door's window and notice a damn industrial sized oven sitting on a metal cart in the main hallway. Whatever.

I get to the designated room and see someone else's bag, someone had the same idea as me. Placing my stuff down, I walked into the kitchen area to begin sanitizing. While washing my hands, I head a loud clang from the kitchen. Poking my head around the corner my eyes widen and make contact with a girl, the girl. Oh god. We prolong eye contact before quickly averting our eyes. I needed to collect myself, the accident and guilt from earlier quickly arising. Shit what do I do? What can I do?

Deciding to grow a pair, I walk out from behind the corner as calmly as I possibly could and see her in full view. Earlier I only saw her briefly and most of that time was her behind a counter, or running away from me. Now, I could fully drink in her presence. She had her hair pulled back into a bun, with two pieces of short hair hanging out. Lowering my gaze, she wore worn-out chef's shoes. Her waist-apron had a couple pink frosting stains. Pink frosting? We don't use fros-

"...What're you doing here?" She asked in a dangerous tone.

Shocked by her initiating convo first, I replied quickly, "I'm here to practice. For my lab." Throwing her own question back at her, "What're you doing here? I thought you worked at the cafe."

"I do," she confirmed, "But I do that on the side, I study here." She gestured to the space behind her.

If I was going to work in the same space as her, I made haste to make amends, "About earlier today, I'd like to formally apologize. I'm sorry for slamming the door in your face, I didn't mean to, honest. It may not reverse the damage I may have caused," referring to her nose, "but I hope you can forgive me." I finished off the sentence with a sheepish smile.

"It's alright," She said barely audible, clearly unsure how to answer.

"Great, anyways I feel like we started off on the wrong foot," I extended my hand out and gave her a warm smile, "I'm Callahan Dupont, and you are...?"

Looking up at my face and my hand she hesitantly did the same, "Adeline Dubois."

Shaking hands, she nodded and let go, wanting to get back to her work, I did the same.

Throughout the 2-hours of working in the shared environment with Adeline, I learned a lot about her. Kind of. We didn't talk much, she didn't talk much. That was alright, I was more than enough to fill the silence for the both of us. She answered in short sentences, if I was lucky. Most of the time she answered in one worded answers. That didn't matter regardless, actions speak louder than words. I got to get familiar based off her mannerisms. For example, she kept to her own, unofficially designating an area for herself. She was left-handed and when she wanted to focus, she held her breath.

"..So what're you doing after this?" I asked during the final leg of our time.

Looking up from her numerous test cakes she replied, "Nothing, why?"

"Well, I was wondering if you'd like to come to this get-together that's happening soon?"

I admit, I was unsure of this idea, but you'll miss all the shots you don't take, right? If she suspected anything, I could simply play it off by being friendly. I wasn't going to lie, she was cute.

"No," she replied flatly, focusing back to her work, not bothering to make anymore eye contact with me.

I wasn't surprised by her answer. I'm more surprised she didn't simply shake her head, or flat out ignore my question.

"Alright, will I see you tomorrow? Will you be here?"

She shrugged, not taking her eyes off the cake she was finishing up, "Dunno."

"Awh, I was really curious as to when I'd see you again. I'll miss our time together." I playfully replied, resting my head on my hand. I wanted to poke at the dragon. She snapped her head up with a disgusted look, masking her flustered face.

I grinned in satisfaction of seeing a different expression, than the usual poker face.

"Mm, alright I'll leave you to it then," I drummed my hands on the counter, before departing.
