"To live amongst glowing energies..to soar like dragons do open winds..I dream of it. I yearn for it. It is my calling." She sighs, skipping a stone of her own.
"Underneath all of the aggression, you're quite poetic." Templez said.
"Tchk, if I wanted a back handed compliment..I would've went back into the grove.." La'zel glared at Templez then smiled, punching him in the shoulder.
"G-Godsdamn...look, whatever happens..I got your back, La'zel. Hells or high water dreams, you're apart of my group now." He rubbed out the onset soreness of the punch.
La'zel didn't say anything after that. They both simply sat in silence. The running river drowned out the quiet thoughts and enlivened the forest's song.
The night turned before they knew it.
Templez laid awake, thinking of all that has already transpired. Since he was a Milekki Paladin of Devotion..he spoke to his goddess in mind; they were in the perfect place for divination. The forest, Milekki's domain.
"Forest strider of mystic steps, please hear me.." His mental voice sharp and calm.
A large, long red haired figure danced into the peripherals. Her bow set aside from some mighty hunt, she crouched down and looked at the fire. She warmed her hands on it, however Templez doubted she needed to. Being a goddess and such would surely allow for easy tackling of the temperature, no?
"Milekki..you came." Templez' gaze widened and settled.
"If I didn't, I'd be no good to my title, eh? What did you require, Paladin?" Her hands brushed the flames like a person would a doll or a pet.
"An ear, if you could spare. I am troubled with less guidance than ever before." Templez' worried and stressed tone beckoned her closer. She rested a hand by his bedroll, staring at the shadows casted by the fire.
"The forest hears all. For I know what troubles you. The Illithid parasite. You want to know what you should do about it.." Milekki looks off into the wind, watching a leaf float over the horizon of trees.
"Milekki, am I going to die before I can save everyone?"
"No. Tailwinds." She said cryptically.
"I'm afraid I don't follow.."
"Tailwinds, Templez." She smiled and walked off into the forest.
He woke up, jolting, only to be tossed around by his own sleeping bag. It was still tight and taught from the sun beating down yesterday and this morning.
"Ah, you've risen. Good." La'zel sat on a fallen tree, eating whatever was in her wooden bowl.
"You made first meal? Awfully generous." Templez cocked a brow which gained an eye roll from La'zel.
"Eat. Your strength and mind will be important for what is to come." La'zel stood up, washing the bowl in the river.
"Hey, what do you know about tailwinds?" Templez asked, still confused by his meeting with Melikki.
"As in the breeze that carries behind a beast or wagon? Yes, I know of it. Why ask?" She dried the bowl before putting in her pack.
"Hmm, I ask because I received a sign from higher forces." He scratched his beard.
La'zel nodded.
"In truth, most signs aren't what they seem. Yet, tailwinds are.. significant and relatively a good sign, I suppose." She added.
"That's a comfort. Thanks, La'zel." Templez sharpened up his sword lightly as they wrapped up the early day routine.
Sun peered through the trees, reflecting off the longsword as it was polished.
