Maya turned her phone on do not disturb and placed it in her purse as she and Mason sat on a park bench side-by-side.

"I'm sorry. My best friend texted."

"You're fine. How do you two know each other?" Mason asked.

"We've known each other since we were born. We both have brothers that are a few years older and when they were little our moms met from their classes. Our families have been through everything together and now we're just like this giant family." She explained the origin of her friendship with Annalise.

"That's honestly amazing, I'd love that. Do you just have one sibling?" She took a sip of her coffee.

"I actually have four brothers, and I count my friend and her sister as my own."

"Wow, you have a pretty big family."

"You?"

"Two siblings. Just a brother and a sister." He said it like it was nothing.

"I wish I only had two. It gets kind of crazy sometimes."

"I'm sure it does." He nodded.

"Do you have any friends like that? Friends that are more like siblings?" She looked up at his eyes when she spoke, they were a nice shade of brown, and she felt she could have gotten lost in them, as cringey as it sounded.

She wanted to know what his impressions of her were, because she found him to be everything she wanted in a partner, even though she just met him.

"You know, I do. She's like a little sister to me. Her names Tess."

"That's such a pretty name. My friend had a work friend named Tess a few years back. It's always stuck with me for some reason."

"Your friend seems super cool. You talk about her a lot."

"I'm sorry, she is. Annalise is probably the coolest person I know."

"Annalise?" It seemed as if the name brought back memories.

"Oh yea that's her name."

He looked down at his phone for a moment, a look of urgency on his face.

"Oh shit. I didn't realize the time. I have to go. I'm late. I'm so sorry, it was great meeting you." He walked off, and she wanted to stop him, this guy seemed so perfect, but she didn't. She just let him keep walking out of her life, not knowing he would be in it again.
