A couple of hours later, the four kids are sitting huddled in the twin's room once again. Night has fallen, and the moon and stars are the only witnesses to the crime (or rescue, as they put it) they are about to commit.
"Everything ready? Everybody ready?" George asks. Y/n puts up her hands.
"You tell me."
"Your idea was brilliant, Y/n." Fred assures her. "Now all that's left is the execution of said brilliant idea." At this, Y/n's face flushes, though no one notices for the lack of light in the room. They wait to hear the sounds of Mr. and Mrs. Weasley going to bed before slowly pushing open the door and creeping downstairs. Through the garage door they go, down the steps and to the sky-blue coloured Ford Anglia. Opening the doors, each climbs into his (or her) respective seat and gets comfy for the long trip.
"Alright, here we go." Fred starts the car. "I'll warn you, I've never flown this before, let alone driven it, so it might be a bit of a bumpy ride."
Y/n swallows hard, but she can't help but smile at the warning. Ron twists around in the front seat to look at her.
"Dad enchanted the car," he whispers, "To fly."
Though she already knows this, Y/n nods to humour him and tries to get settled in her seat. They are quite comfortable, not to mention the charms put on to make it bigger on the inside, but she can't get rid of the uneasiness in her stomach. She really is here– about to join in on one of the most daring rescues in the book series (in her opinion). Just distract yourself. She looks out the window at all of the Muggle artifacts Arthur has collected. Not helping. Look at something else. Say something.
"Yeah, I know," she says. "I'm really excited. A-a little bit nervous too." No, idiot! Don't make them worry! They might tell you to stay! Ron looks back at her, and she sees a hint of sympathy in his face.
"You don't have to come," George tells her. "But I think– I know we haven't known each other for much more than a day, but I think you're going to, and I think you'll have fun." He smiles. "It'll wear off, mate, trust me." Y/n smiles back at him. The uneasiness seems to fade at just that.
"Thanks, George, that's just what I needed." Feeling him pat on her shoulder, she looks over to see him grinning at her, the spark of excitement obvious in his eyes—a stark contrast to the nervousness she feels.
"Mum didn't even know that dad enchanted the car at first," Ron adds. "I– er, I know you know this, but-"
"It's alright," Y/n says quickly. She does, but it's a perfect distraction from the feeling still residing in her torso.
"Right...well, she doesn't know we're sneaking out, either, but what she doesn't know won't hurt her. We'll hopefully be back before anybody is awake." A sudden lurch quiets the lot of them, and Y/n realizes that they are in the air. Fred grips the steering wheel, his lips curling as he manoeuvres the car through the slowly disappearing yard. Avoiding the window for a few minutes, Y/n continues to converse with Ron about his family while George navigates from next to her. Eventually, however, Ron falls back to rest, and Y/n is left with nothing to do but look at the view.
Calming herself, she turns to the glass and looks out at the clouds and the sky beyond. Their conversation must have lasted at least 10-15 minutes, because the Burrow is now far behind, nowhere to be seen.
"Nice view, isn't it?" Fred calls from the front.
"Yes," Y/n breathes. "It's amazing."
"Can't believe we don't do this more often," he replies. "Because I agree."
"Well I can," Ron states. "Mum would've killed us by now. There's no way we'd get away with a little weekly vacation like this." Fred shrugs in response, continuing to fly on George's direction.
