The Dream

You opened your eyes to a bright place It was almost... beige in appearance, yet glowing with a magical sort of light. There were papers. So many papers. Some were in the air, floating as if suspended by some sort of invisible string, some were tearing themselves apart, and some lay discarded on the floor- abandoned. This place looked infinite- the papers went on as far as you could see. You tried to step forwards, to touch one of the papers, and yet as you attempted to move your feet, you felt a force holding you in place. It was a force so strong that you felt your legs might tear from your body if you tried to move them more than you had already. And your neck felt so stiff; no matter which way you attempted to turn your head, your body still refused to move.

In some sort of desperate grasp for control, you racked your head for a way to identify this place. The almost fuzzy atmosphere, the weird warmth that seemed to surround your body... this must be a dream. Yes- only a dreamscape could be so comfortable and yet so disturbing at the same time. But you knew you were dreaming so why, like any other lucid dream, couldn't you control or change a thing?

Before you had a chance to get lost in your spiralling thoughts, you heard a voice. Or rather, two voices. One was glitchy and irregular, like audio from an old computer or strange text to speech, and the other was clear and sounded... kind yet empty all at the same time. You tried to reach out to these voices, to shout for help or say hello, and yet your mouth was tightly shut, and just would not move no matter how much you willed yourself to do so. The voices, the more you stood there, began to get louder and easier to understand. It was not as though anything useful was being said- the glitchy voice was screeching curses and profanities at the other, while the other voice remained relatively quiet other than the occasional sound of pained grunts. You tried to look around for the sources of the voices to no avail, and after a little while longer of panicking and attempting to get your body to move, you just gave up. After all, this was just a stupid dream. Nothing bad could happen in a dream, especially not in this empty, weird place.

"You MORONIC SQUID-" The glitchy voice shouted, sounding particularly angry, "Create one more universe and so help me I will get Nightmare here to destroy the whole fucking doodlesphere-!" Doodlesphere...? You could only assume that was where you were right now- it would explain the ridiculous amount of paper in this place. Perhaps this dream represented the amount of paper you had wasted as a child, doodling in maths class instead of doing any work. However, you didn't think that weighed down enough on your conscious to manifest itself in a dream.

"You never told me to do otherwise!" The other voice replied defensively, "Do you really hold me accountable for something I didn't know about?"

"We made a DEAL-!" The glitchy voice screamed. It was quite a jarring sound- something akin to a buffering TV mixed with radio static. There was a short period of silence after this, in which only an occasional buzz or sparking kind of sound would come from the direction of the glitching voice. You really didn't know much about what was going on, but it honestly seemed like an issue that could be solved with civil discussion, rather than a screaming match.

"No, no we didn't," There was the sound of the rustling of fabric, then a confident silence before the voice continued to speak, "If we made a deal, I would have written it down here. I always write everything I need to remember here!" You couldn't see what the fabric this person was showing was from, but you very much hoped that it was not their underwear... though, given the strange nature of this conversation so far, you wouldn't have been too surprised if it truly was where this stranger wrote down their little reminders.

"Only YOU are to blame for your shitty memory-! We agreed that I would stop destroying AUs if you stopped creating them, and the next week, here you are playing around and making more! Does the balance of the universe not concern you in the sli- what the fuck is that thing?" All of a sudden, you feel two pairs of eyes on the back of your head. In an ideal world, you would have been able to turn around and greet the people behind you, and tell the glitch that you weren't a 'thing', however, you were still stuck in place, just like before. So, you were just awkwardly frozen in place there, waiting for them to do something.

You heard the tap of footsteps behind you; one of the people was wearing slippers, as there was a very distinctive sound that could only come from the back of slippers hitting the floor, and the other one, by the light brushing sound against the floor, must have been wearing some type of trainers. Strangely, the closer the two people seemed to get to you, you broke into a cold sweat and felt a strange pulling sensation in your body. It felt almost as though someone was trying to rip your heart out from your chest, and yet nothing could be felt touching you. Extremely strange, you thought, but no matter how much you struggled in your mind, your body just would not move a muscle. Then, you feel something akin to a hand on your shoulder... 'akin', because it felt nothing like a hand at all. It was hard, lacking the softness of a usual hand, and felt unnervingly cold. Perhaps it could have been a person with very skinny hands, but even that did not explain the cold lifelessness of whoever, or whatever, was touching you. It sent shivers down your spine.

"Huh! It looks to be a human- not Frisk, by the looks of things. But it's in some... weird, half-conscious state? It doesn't seem to be able to move... have you seen this before, Error?" The normal voice asked, a question most likely directed towards their companion. 'Error', you thought, seemed like a very fitting name for the guy and his glitchy voice.

"No. It's always usually Frisk. Perhaps there was simply a glitch in their AU..." The glitchy voice drawled, sounding terribly bored. This guy didn't seem nearly as passionate about your appearance as his 'friend', "If the AU is broken, then I can go and get rid of it. It would be a little easier if there were less to look for..."

"No, Error!" The normal voice exclaimed in a very sudden burst of emotion, "It's probably nothing we need to worry about, given it can't even move at the moment."

'Error' only responded with a grunt, a very glitchy grunt, before pacing away from you. This guy didn't seem very pleasant overall and, for some reason, his lack of enthusiasm about your presence in the 'doodlesphere' was kind of getting to you. What if he was silently judging you?? However, the rational part of your brain told you that he probably judged everyone in the same manner. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see a sort of patch of black, red and blue glitches in the air- manically overlapping and changing shape every second. Perhaps you had caught a glimpse of the mysterious 'Error', but before you could dwell on it too long, it had disappeared from your sight once again.

"So... the deal?" The normal voice continued to speak. He removed his hand from your shoulder and walked in the direction 'Error' had walked off in.

"Same as before. You stop creating, I stop destroying. And write it the fuck down this time. You could cause a tear in the multiverse and-"

"I know, Ruru. I'll try to remember." The one who had his hand on your shoulder sighed, sounding quite dejected.

"I'm getting the fuck out of here. Don't want to be in this shithole any longer." Error spat, sounding unnecessarily hostile. It wasn't as though the other had said anything rude to him...

"Say hi to Nightma-"

"No chance." And with a strange whooshing sound, the glitchy noises and Error himself seemed to disappear.

The other person, the normal-sounding one, sighed yet again. You felt a pair of eyes on the back of your head. He was looking at you. He didn't say anything, nor touch you again as he did before. He just stared at you for a while as though he were contemplating something. Most likely, he was trying to figure out a way to get you out of his doodlesphere, or whatever it was called. Did that guy live here...? It seemed very empty- you could imagine he got bored a lot. Or perhaps he was an artist, and this place was like paradise to him.

"Hiya," The voice spoke, seeming to be talking to you for the first time in this crazy dream, "I'm really sorry. This might hurt a little bit..."

You wanted to protest, to ask what was going to hurt, but you couldn't. Instead, you had to stay in place as a very loud swishing sound filled your ears, and a hard, large object slammed into your back. The air was forced from your lungs, and everything around you began to fade to black.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Hi! This was a little bit of a practice chapter to get used to writing. Any and all feedback on my writing is appreciated (if you have stuff you'd like me to change, go ahead and say!) because I'm not very used to writing longer stories like this! Hopefully, my writing can improve the more I write here, and then the fanfic will improve too in general!
