I got home and talked to my parents about everything that had happened. About the dreams, when I ran away and now I would have to spend the night at the house of an unknown man. They didn't want me to go but this could be my last hope. So they had no other solution if they didn't agree with me. That night, before leaving for the forest, I was not afraid of the devil. I was confident that I would get rid of him. In the morning, I thought about making it up to the man who would help me. Something I noticed was that his kitchen was quite empty and for that reason I went shopping. I bought more essential food items. I filled my backpack with everything I needed, in addition to the full bags that I would carry in both hands, and left for Geralt's house.

I persuaded my parents to allow me to face this challenge alone. When I went there I didn't find him, nor the mare. I walked a little further and came across Jaskier, in the back, sitting playing and singing. He raised his head and I gestured to him not to stop the beautiful spectacle. I waited until it was finished. He was very happy that I listened to him. In the end, he invited me in and asked me what I brought.

"No offense, your shelves are empty..."

"Yes, I mentioned that to Geralt. He took responsibility for the hunt."

"What have you been eating?" I was alarmed.

"Some animals..." He was afraid of my question." Some fish from the lake... Because... Is this the king's property?"

"We haven't been ruled by a king for decades." I indicated, thinking that he came from some monarchy.

"Do you have some kind of governor? Does this territory belong to someone very important?"

"I don't know if this place has an owner. I simply worried about the type of food... or whether you were eating properly."

"Oh, I thought we were getting into serious trouble..." He sighed. "In that case, what did you bring?"

"Fruit, pasta, rice..." I started distributing them around the table.

"Canned food and preserves." He picked up the cans, fascinated. "How does it work? I don't remember them selling..."

"They are great for preserving food and extending its shelf life."

"Wonderful." He rejoiced. "Geralt and I belong to the past."

"What do you mean the past? Do you prefer the old ways?"

"We travel through time. A mage sent us here." He shivered. "I am a famous musician. Geralt is a witcher, a mutant with heightened senses to hunt monsters. I can explain to you what I know because Geralt is one of few words and won't reveal many details."

I was surprised and curious about what I had just discovered. Not all the fantastic events he described to me centered on Geralt. Or hunting dark creatures. He reported in detail about the different era where he was born. I could say it was a fairy tale or that it was made up, but the demon that chased me proved that monsters exist.

Geralt ended up appearing in the middle of the afternoon. He greeted us nonchalantly and raised his eyebrow when he saw the shelves occupied. I approached him and told him that Jaskier had told me everything. However, the witcher was not happy about that. So, as they paid him for his work and I didn't have the type of currency they used, I asked him to accept that I bring what they needed.

The day was getting dark and we were all on alert. Outside, an immense darkness enveloped the environment, so I was terrified of approaching the windows. There was no electricity, candles lit us. Jaskier occasionally looked at me in fear, while Geralt kept a closed expression. I sat on an old couch and covered myself with a small blanket, shrinking from the night. I saw the witcher peek at me out of the corner of his eye. There was interest in his gaze.

The night was calm, there were no signs of the devil.

"I don't feel his presence..." I whispered.

"Jaskier, stay there with her. I'll go outside and take a look." Geralt indicated.

"What?" Jaskier jumped off the bench. "And if..."

"I'm a Witcher." Geralt snorted.

With heavy steps he went outside, leaving the door ajar. I couldn't see anything outside. My palms were sweaty. I would suffer from remorse if the witcher suffered an attack. After all, he had plunged into the dark without taking any light with him. After a few minutes, Jaskier gave a small scream and I was also scared when Geralt appeared without warning in front of the door.

"There is nothing!" He grumbled even more grumpily.

"I don't feel it." I saw that Geralt was looking at me with disdain once again. "He exists!" I didn't want him to think I was lying or that I was an impostor.

"Let's eat something." Jaskier advised. "We will have answers to what could be interfering."
