Darker Days

Chapter Seven.

I wake up to the sound of shouting. I slowly roll over and sit up stretching, I see Jt was also waking up now as well. He looks up at me and waves.

"What is with all this yelling?" I ask as I hop off the bunk

"I'm going to guess shit's going down and Sarge is yelling at them all." He laughs and stands up grabbing his shirt and putting it on

I nod as I turn away, pulling off the top I had and grabbing the black long sleeve that stuck out of my bag, I was still wearing the baggy army pants from Jordan and now the black long sleeve. I slipped my boots on and walked towards the door where Jt was following me.

"You know Jordan is just looking out for you, right?" He asks as I turn back

"Listen, I understand but I am not a child." I say as I then walk out and head to the main area where I see people eating, chatting, and trying to find there loved one's. As I look around I see a smiling face approaching me, realizing it's Dustin.

"Hey stranger." He smiles and I wave at him, sending him back a soft smile, "How was your sleep? I hope better then mine, I was stuck on two blankets on the cold floor." He laughs causing me to laugh

"That's awful!" I laugh harder, "Now I'm glad I had a bunk bed." I say and his jaw drops

"The fuck you mean bunk bed?!" He asks and I laugh and he just shakes his head, "Wanna come get breakfast with me?" He asks and my face goes red but I nod

He smiles and leads me towards the four tables that are set up with food, he grabs a paper plate and hands it to me and then grabs his own, we get in line behind a family who had two younger kids. 

Dustin turned to me, "So how old are you? We never actually got to get introduced." He says as we get served some scrambled eggs.

"I'm seventeen, was just going into my final year of high school actually." I say and he gasps

"So that means you're missing the best year of high school!" He says and I nod, "Today was my first day of college so I get missing out a pretty big milestone." He sighs

"What college were you going too?" I ask as we leave the line up and go to a table

"I was going to Cherno." He says and my eyes light up

"I was finishing my high school there!" I smile and he smiles

Before I could say more someone plops a tray next to mine and I look up to see Jordan, Aaron, and Jt. I sigh loudly causing Dustin to hold in a laugh as he then turns towards Jordan.

"So are you Astrid's older brother?" He asks Jordan and Jt spits his drink out as he laughs

"Fuck not again!" I shout and throw napkins at him causing Aaron to laugh.

"No, I am not her brother, but I did make her mother a promise before she died that I would protect her." Jordan says as Dustin nods

"That make's more sense, if I wouldn't have known that I would've sworn you were like obsessed or in love with her." Dustin say's causing me to choke on my egg that was in my mouth, Jordan reaches over and hits my back a few times till I moved away

"Nothing like that." Jordan says quickly and I kick Dustin making him laugh harder. "I made a promise to her mother who sacrificed herself to save many people, hence why I am protective over her." Jordan says in a more stern tone and Dustin nodded.

"Well, protector man, mind if I take Astrid for a walk around the compound?" Dustin asks, I watch as Jordan glares at him, but he sighed and nodded, Dustin got up and approached me, he put his hand out and I grabbed it, "M'lady." He says and smirks before pulling me away with him.
