Darker Days

Chapter Four.

I can feel myself being shaken, my eyes slowly open and I see the army guy standing over me.

"On your feet now!" He shouts and I quickly stand as he jumps out of the back of the truck.

I throw my backpack on and grab his hand as he helps me down, It looks as if the sun is just rising so it must be around six in the morning. There is helicopters flying over  and bright lights everywhere. There is a bunch of soldiers running around moving things and getting into different vehicles. My eyes are wandering all over the place as I feel someone grab my arm, I look up to see the same army guy as he drags me towards a huge building away from everything. When we get in I see groups of people being escorted places or checked. The guy drags me away into a room away from everyone and closes it behind us. The room was plain and white, with a dull light that lit it up and there was doors on either side of the room. 

"Sit here, be quiet and patient, I will be back for you soon." He says as he leaves the room and I sigh sitting in one of the beds that's on a random wall. Before I could process anything the door is thrown open and three more girls were escorted in and the soldier said the same thing and left.

"What the fuck!" A girl yells and bangs on the door.

"Anya it is absolutely no use dude give it up." The brunette says as she rolls her eyes and looks at me. "Oh shit, sorry didn't realize anyone else was here." She stares at me and the two other girls face me as well.

"Uh, hi." I wave awkwardly

"Who the fuck are you?" The girl with black hair, who was banging on the door asks

"Jesus Christ Anya don't be so damn rude." The brunette says before turning her attention to me, "Hello, I'm Charlie, this is my sister Anya and her twin Iris." She points towards the two girls, the quiet one waves at me as the other looks away.

"Hello, I'm Astrid." I force a smile as Anya turns back to the door, she goes to bang it and it swings open again hitting Anya causing her to fall, in walked three super tall soldiers.

"On your feet ladies!" One yelled, I stood quickly and Iris helped Anya off the ground. "Astrid we are moving you to a private room, they've moved your mother here to be a field nurse." He says as I grab my bag and he leads me out as the other two soldiers stays with the girls.

"You know," The soldier starts. "You're lucky they're even letting you see her, most families get separated." He sounds annoyed he even has to take me to her and I nod

After three minutes we arrive at a room, he opens the door and shoves me in, I turn to him and he slams the door leaving me alone again. I sit on one of the beds, this one was so much comfier then the other one. I open my bag and grab my book and pen, as I wait I might as well do something. I decide to lean back and do some small doodling. After about 30 minutes the door swung open and I look up seeing my mother and Andrew being escorted in by two soldiers. 

"Thank you Mrs. Clarke for coming on such short notice, we are just so low on nurses." The one says as my mom smiles

"Of course, I am so glad myself and other nurses can help! And thank you for bringing me my daughter." My mom says as she sets her two bags down and runs to me hugging me.

"Get settled in, we will be back in a few hours." The man said and left the room and I hug my mom tightly

"I swear I wasn't going to see you again." I say and feel tears in my eyes

"I know sweetie, I know." She says as she strokes my hair and then pulls away, "They are super short staffed here, they pulled myself and about ten other nurses." She says as she grabs Andrews hand and we all sit

"Mom what is this, I am so scared, and I haven't seen Luke since the hospital." I say as I feel tears running down my face

"Well I think I am unfortunately out of favor's, but when I am wandering around this place I will look for him." She rubs my arm, "Also they still haven't told me much, but from what I have gathered is its a flesh eating disease and its causing people severe aggression and this may sound fucked up to say, but people are eating people." My mom says and I just stare at her

What the fuck did she just say? Yeah okay I witnessed biting at school but full blow eating? Absolutely not. Without even realizing I started laughing, my mom and Andrew stare at me.

"Uh, Astrid?" Andrew asks as he stands up and approaches me, kneeling down next to me as my mom rubs my arm

"I am sorry but you're making this up, this sounds like fucking zombies." I continue to laugh and my mom was looking at me with a straight face, "Shit, your not kidding." I try to calm my giggles down as she rolls her eyes

"Okay I wouldn't fucking call it zombies Astrid." My mom says slightly annoyed causing Andrew and I to slightly giggle and she rolls her eyes, "Lets try to get a few hours of sleep, it's like three in the morning or something." My mom yawns and we agree

I crawl into my bed and pull the covers up, this has been the most stressful day of my fucking life, but all I know I need to find Luke.
