Philomena Ainsworth always longed for something bigger, something better. Born with her head in the clouds, she remembers the Capitol's heavy chains weighing her down since birth.

For as long as she can think, she has refused to let herself be swept along by the Capitol's cold and lifeless machinery. She's a beacon of light in the darkness, refusing to be swallowed whole. If there's one thing she knows, it's that she won't let them diminish her spark. She won't be just another puzzle piece for them to shape and mold however they want.

Growing up, she would surround herself with the only people who ever truly came close to understanding how she felt. Pollo, Didi, and Minnie they called themselves, and the names stuck over the years. They've been inseparable ever since and always provide a welcome distraction whenever the routines of her everyday life bore her.

Nevertheless, it was never enough. Philomena always wondered what life might be like outside of the Capitol, but the unstable political climate of the time made it far too dangerous for her to join her beloved uncle on one of his business trips to Seven.

And then the war came, and the topic of leaving the Capitol was never brought up again. Until she's seventeen years old.

When her hunger for freedom is stilled for only one summer, she doesn't know that these weeks will impact the rest of her life drastically.

Treech Ackley always longed for something more in life. And when he finds what he was looking for, he knows he can't stand to admire from afar. And he refuses to let it go, even when that summer is over and he's met with the biggest threat to his life ever since the war.
