"lupin!" y/n shouted as she walked into her uncle's class. the man was free of classes today and that left him to be the only person who she could be truthful with. "uncle, I swear on merlin that you dare listen to me today because-" she sighed deeply.
his room was empty, speckled with dust floating around the dimly lit room. the only source of light shown through the windows, highlighting the large gap in his room. multiple desks had been pushed aside to give his room more space. what for, y/n could not say. she simply did not know, but she wasn't going to ask. at least, she did not plan on it until she took sight of the scars running across the whole of his face.
"hello, y/n." the man turned on his heel to stare at y/n. his eyebrows furrowed down and he cleared his throat. "I'm rather busy but I can spare a few moments."
"sir," she started quietly, "your face. are you alright?"
"I'm sorry, what-?" her voice was too quiet for him to process her question correctly. and he asked for her to repeat it, only for him to then hear it again in his own mind. "oh, yes, uh... simply got into a fight with a pixie the other day. have you heard of them? what dastardly creatures they are, simply so conniving and deceitful," he answered, his voice wavering. lupin then cleared his throat and redirected the discussion at hand. "what was it that you needed to talk to me about?"
y/n's mouth grew dry, her tongue prickling as it ran along the backs of her teeth. "it's about harry. do you perhaps know why he has been so distant lately?" she immediately corrected herself. "I mean far, as in he's so far off and focused on something else." and to confirm her thoughts she added a curt nod.
"harry..." he paused, collecting his thoughts. "yes, indeed. it wouldn't hurt to tell you, would it?" he asked himself, although the rhetorical question was directed towards y/n. he pondered for a moment more.
"I do," he answered finally, seating himself in a barren desk beside the classroom door. "he's had quite an exciting week with me. we've been practicing some spells and other things. just in case of sirius." he watched as y/n's eyes alit for the tiniest of seconds as he mentioned sirius's name.
"does it have to do with the map? your map?" she butt in. lupin cocked his head indifferently, his eyes blaring down on hers.
"silly me, to think you would not have been in possession of such a thing. ha!" he laughed to himself. "so you're the one who gave it to harry?"
she shook her head. "no. of course not. that would be blatantly dumb, and only the weasley twins are that foolish."
lupin nodded on, pressing the palm of his hand against his mouth. "I suppose then that it does. if you're aware of harry's presence in everything, and you know the stories, then there is not much for me to fill in that you cannot figure out yourself."
the two sat in silence as y/n pondered over his words. what was she supposed to figure out herself? there was practically all the information splayed out at her feet and she could not understand a single ounce of it. "sirius black's involvement with harry?" she questioned, "what for? sure, he... could have murdered his parents. but why come back for more blood?" she stumbled over the 'murdered' part, unsure of her uncle's own opinions.
"to finish off the job," he replied plain, "to see his godson die after all these years of waiting."
y/n was stunned. her body tensed at the word "godson". no one had ever said, moreover known, harry was sirius's godson. her father was his godfather in the same way that he was hers. she shuddered at the thought. "merlin," she swore.
lupin narrowed his eyes at her. "you never knew?"
"no!" she laughed at the absurdity. "never." everything began flooding into her mind, piling onto her like a toppled train off its tracks. "harry must be upset at me for being the 'daughter' of sirius. he's casting his anger out on me because there is no sirius here to take it out on." her features turned down solemnly. "...and that makes him apart of the sirius family now, doesn't it?" her eyes flickered up to meet with lupin's.
