"uh, excuse me. let me through!" percy struggled, squeezing his way through the crowd of students that had gathered on the moving stairs. "I'm head student!"
the commotion outside the dormitories was enough to wake y/n. frightening was more or less the easiest way to describe it. not to mention, hearing "head student" from the weasley brother whilst sleeping in a weasley's bed in a dorm that was not her own was a terrifying thought; and that thought fully awakened her.
the first thing she came to notice—other than the noise—was fred's heavy arm lazily draped over her stomach, keeping her close. collective memories of earlier resurfaced. she definitely needed the nap after everything. it had jogged her mind and refreshed her energy. fred, on the other hand, seemed to be the deepest sleeper she had ever come across. hopelessly, her fingers prodded at the underside of fred's arm, hoping to easily slide it off.
the ginger jolted awake, his eyes shooting open. immediately, they darted to y/n's figure. the girl had stilled, unsure of what just happened.
"what-"
"sorry-"
for a mere moment, something crackled and sparked to life—a shared spur of anxious excitement. then it sizzled out.
the two promptly quieted, staring at each other for a few beats. then y/n cleared her throat and worked her way out of the bed, and out of fred's grasp. "they're outside," she told him. the ginger propped himself onto his elbows, his eyes following her movements as she stumbled out of bed. her hair was a mess, eyebags hung heavily, and yet she looked good. y/n repeated his name, recalling him from his thoughts. fred blinked, a flutter in his stomach. "did you hear me? I said they're outside."
"who?" he asked. the feeling diminished quickly. his question was answered when percy burst into the dorm. footsteps and muffled voices were all that either of them could hear. he half-smirked, pulling himself out of bed. "you are sure in for a treat, n/n."
"shush. I'll be in and out," she huffed. moving over to harry's bed, y/n found herself leaning over and shuffling through his things. her fingers danced across something soft and not visible to the eye. perfect. she clutched the object and drew it up from his bag. fred yawned behind her.
the boy stood up from his bed, rubbing his eyes, and took a step towards y/n. "in all my pride, I guess I can find the words to say good luck to you," he jested, ruffling her already messy hair with his hand. y/n said nothing, a ghost of a smile lingering on her lips.
she threw the invisible blanket over her head. it smelled of fresh baby wipes. a relief. wrapping it carefully around her body, y/n set out to leave the dorms and slip past however many students were out there.
fortunately, the room was only occupied by a couple teachers and prefects (including percy). they were mumbling something. y/n couldn't help the pestering curiosity that eventually overtook her, and she found herself sitting down in a chair, listening. there was a great chance that she would be caught.
it was a bit awkward at first. not her, the teachers. they were so shaky, wands drawn and tensions high. it took them forever to again mention what was frizzing their nerves.
"sirius black really was here? in this dorm?" a prefect muttered. y/n's eyes widened, her fingers instinctively gripping the arm of the chair.
"yeah, I guess so. he was in some sort of form. like a w-"
their conversation was cut short by high-pitched cries of fred's name. fred danced out of his room on the tips of his toes. into the common room. professor mcgonagall was talking his ear off, and suddenly everyone was asking the twin questions. y/n felt a twinge bit guilty, but she'd be in much more trouble, even though the poor boy was asleep when it all went down.
