You, Y/N Daae, and your sister Christine have studied at the Palais Garnier opera house for ballet under Madame Giry since you were 7, at the time when your father, a famous violinist, died tragically.
The opera house was performing "Hannibal", with Lady Collet as the lead star.
You, Christine and your friend, the Madames daughter, Meg Giry, were a part of the ballet. The new managers were scoping out the opera and interrupted the rehearsal.
"Monsiers!" The orchestrator said frustratingly, "We are rehearsing!"
The former manager began to speak after almost everyone had gathered around. You and Meg stood in the back, dressed in your revealing but beautiful costumes.
"Monsieur Reyer, Madam Giry, ladies
and gentlemen, thank you - may I
have your attention, please? As
you know, for some weeks there have
been rumours of my imminent
retirement. I can now tell you
that these were all true and... it is my pleasure to introduce to you the two gentlemen who now own the Opera Populaire: Monsieur Richard Firmin and Monsieur Gilles Andre. I'm sure you've read of their recent fortune in the junk business." The former manager smiled.
People around you clapped. You and Meg joined in. Two girls behind you could be heard whispering, "they must be rich!"
One of the men, Firmin, stepped forward and spoke, "And we are deeply honored to introduce our new patron..."
New patron? You wondered.
The other manager stepped forward, Andre, "The Vicomte de Chagny!"
People blew whistles and clapped as a familiar face appeared.
Christine gasped beside you, "It's Raoul!"
You smile and look at Christine, "Were t you to childhood sweethearts?" You laughed, "The whole time...at the house by the sea...I saw something between you two." You nudged her shoulder.
Christine smiled and looked at Raoul. Meg spoke beside you two, "He's handsome."
Raoul began to speak, not noticing you or Christine. "My parents and I are honoured to support all the arts, especially
the world renowned Opera Populaire."
Lady Carlotta aggressively walked forward and practically shoved her hand in Raouls face.
After they greeted Raoul spoke once more. You noticed Christine looking at him with a sort of longing. You smiled."An honour, signor... I believe I'm keeping you for your rehearsal. I will be here this evening to share your great triumph. My apologies Monsieur." Raoul apologized to the orchestrator, Reyer, and left. Breezing past you and Christine.
Christine signed beside you. "He wouldn't recognize me..."
"He didn't see you!" You smile.
The opera begins to resume rehearsal. You ready yourself and begin dancing. You notice Madams Giry, Firmin, and Andre observing you and the rest of the ballet. You ignore it and continue dancing, feeling fully engulfed into the music. It consumed you, you closed your eyes and moved with the sound echoing through your body with grace.
"...Y/N Daae." Madam Giry spoke to the managers, "Promising talent. I think of her as a daughter as well. She was orphaned at 7, trained in the ballet dormitories."
