— Part 1 —
A Rude Awakening for these Shut-ins!

...

Hmm...?

By the time I'd opened my eyes, I was sitting in a strange, dark room. I was seated in one of two chairs, facing each other in the empty, endless void.

Ah, right. The truck. I remember pushing that girl out of the way, sacrificing myself to save her.

I'd always lived as a shut-in, wasting away without focusing on school or thinking seriously about my future. Instead, I filled my days with meaningless things like gaming and anime.

I see. I guess I should have truly appreciated the value of my life... I'm glad that at least, at the bitter end, I could use it to do something... I hope that girl will live happily...

"Hey. You, in the green track suit." The voice of a girl echoed through the room, and I looked up, shaken from my inner monologue. There, seated across from me on the other chair, sat a goddess.

"Kazuma Sato." She said gently. "You died at a fairly young age... Now, you must make a choice."

A choice?
But no, there was something I had to get off my mind first.

"That girl... is she... okay...?"
I stared expectantly at the goddess before me, whose expression softened.

"Yeah, she's fine." Then she grinned. "That tractor was going to stop safely before hitting her, though."
I smiled before processing everything she'd said.

"That's goo— what? Seriously—? It was going to stop...? And what do you mean by 'tractor—?' "

Finally, the girl seemed like she couldn't take it anymore, and burst out laughing.

"You thought that it was actually a truck, and so you dove in and shoved the girl who would've been fine!"
She was laughing hysterically now, even her eyes were watering. "Then, when you hit your head from falling onto the road, simultaneously having a heart attack from fear of the 'truck!!' I've never seen such a stupid death—!!"

Argh—!
Why was my death so embarrassing?! And after I'd just had that emotional realization—!

Wait, no, doesn't this mean that if I'd lived, I'd have to deal with the embarrassment of pushing a random girl and mistaking a tractor for a truck?!

Thank you, oh merciful God, for letting me die!!

...

"...Wait, you said something about there being a choice for me to make?"
I stated at the blue-haired girl in front of me.
Seriously, is she a goddess? She looks and acts like she's just around my age.

"Yeah, Yeah, just... let me calm down a little." Her laughing began to die down, as if she'd just remembered I was there.

...No, scratch that, she's even more immature than me somehow.

...

"Anyhow, I'm Aqua, the goddess of water. Kazuma, since you've died, you have two options."
She had eventually calmed down, and began explaining with a bored expression.
"You can either go to heaven and spend eternity there, or you can choose to be reincarnated; either in your world or in another."
