“You can do this Caden. Calm down. You’ve got this.” The caramel-haired boy looked at his reflection one last time before making sure everything was set for the little surprise he planned for his girlfriend, Evelyn.

Normally, he wouldn’t be so anxious trying to treat his girlfriend. But this was their first Valentine’s together and he wanted to make it memorable for both of them.

After making sure everything was in place, he took his place on the living room floor. Soon enough, as though on cue, the door to their shared dorm clicks open, and in comes a ravenette, clad in the university jacket and a pair of blue jeans.

As soon as she enters the room, a singular rose petal falls from the ceiling. Confused, her eyes trail up to the ceiling, eyes widening as a mass of rose petals come crashing onto her face, knocking her off her feet onto the ground.

Caden curses under his breath and tries to get to her as swiftly as he can. Unfortunately, his legs grew numb due to all that kneeling, causing the boy to fall flat on his face.

Groaning, he crawls over to his giggling girlfriend, oblivious to the petals stuck in the strands of her hair.

Holy shit, how did I manage to get such a beautiful girl.

“Here let me help”

He tries to get the petals out but ends up staring at her eyes the entire time. The sound of Evelyn clearing her throat snaps him out of his thoughts.

“What were you trying to do, idiot.” She questions and Caden feels his cheeks redden as he stumbles over his own words. “Uhhh, I um wanted to… you know what, never mind, let me show you”.

He struts confidently over to the middle of the living room and resumes his previous on the floor this time sitting down for the safety of face and knees.

Pulling out his guitar, he positions it on his lap and motions for Evelyn to sit down in front of him. “This one’s for you, Eve. For everything you taught me and showed me these 10 months we’ve been together.”
