“Evelyn, babe, honey, my one and only, I love you. More than anything in this world. But seriously, when you said making this night ‘memorable’, I didn't think you meant cleaning the kitchen.”
“Oh, you whining baby. You made this mess. Now, help me clean it up.” She huffs before going back to scrubbing the soot off of the walls and the stove. Caden pouts and stares back at the utensils in the sink in front of him. Grumbling something incoherent under his breath, he gets back to scraping the burnt food off of the vessels.
After a while of scraping, he’s finally done and moves on to the spoons. He rinses a spoon and stares at it for a while as a mischievous smile etches onto his face. He calls out his girlfriend's name and as soon as she turns to face him, Caden flicks some water on her face. “Oh my god, Caden! You!” She grabs her dirty sponge and leaps at him, successfully tainting his handsome features with grime and soot.
They mess around for a couple more minutes with Evelyn emerging as the victor, having spread the maximum amount of grease possible on her boyfriend's face. Her condition is not so good either, her hair is sticking out in more than a few places and her face is dripping with water. They stare into each other's eyes and let out a few silent chuckles, laughing at how either of them looked.
Putting their childish acts aside, they take turns cleaning themselves, and once finished, they get back to the task at hand, working as a comfortable silence envelopes them. Just as they are done cleaning the kitchen, both their stomach rumbles loudly at the same time. They look at each other and as though entering a silent agreement they start getting the ingredients out to prepare dinner.
“What do you want to have for dinner tonight? I mean, we don’t have much, but there’s still some ramen that you didn’t burn earlier.” Evelyn chuckles.
“Hey! Don’t laugh! I tried my best to make us something edible!”
“Yes, and terribly failed in doing so. You should be grateful that I love you or else I’d kick you out for the damage you’ve caused in the kitchen.”
