❝ a hopeless romantic all my life

Karina had always been something of a romantic.
Ever since she was little, she'd dreamed of being swept off her feet by some savior, someone who was her knight in shining armor who protected her and made her feel like the only girl in the world.
That was part of the reason she'd accepted Heeseung: he was cute, popular, and treated her sweetly. Until he didn't, and he'd started to take her for granted, which was why she dumped him like she did.
As she went through life, her image of the perfect person started to change. She still wanted someone who made her feel special, but she also wanted someone to be her best friend and laugh with her.
Someone like Min.
Well, more like Win, if her suspicions were correct.
Min hadn't replied to her message (which was rather pointed, Karina would give her that, so she wasn't too bothered) and Winter hadn't said anything to her in school yet. However, further happenings in school only served to further her accusations, such as the news spreading like wildfire of dark, mysterious Aeri Uchinaga going out with bubbly, smiley Jeon Somi. The two were total opposites, and Karina couldn't help but notice the sudden drop in mood and drastic clothing change of Winter's best friend Ningning. It made sense, actually. Ningning liking Aeri wasn't something that could be totally alien, and even worse, Somi was almost exactly like Ningning.
Also, Karina had nearly walked in on Aeri and Ningning during Zuha's party (not anxious to relive that again) and making someone feel like just a hookup- a one-night stand- was the worst thing you could do to someone's feelings. Making them feel like the world one moment and then nothing the next.
So, all of these crappy romance happenings had kind of, sort of ruined Karina's perfect image of someone's knight in shining armor. Especially since Yunjin had finally grown the balls to ask Chaewon out (a resounding yes) much to Yeonjun's chagrin and their friend group's finally's and took you long enough's.
To make that worse, during one of Kazuha's soccer games, Sakura had been sitting right next to the net and Kazuha had scored three consecutive goals right when she was there. After the game, Kazuha had remarked to Sakura, "You're my good-luck charm. You should come to the rest of my games and stay close to me. If I lose you, I might lose a game, yeah?" which had nearly caused the older girl to spontaneously combust. Miraculously, she held it together and flirted right back: "So you're saying you want me around you?"
"Of course I do," Kazuha had replied with a smirk, and when Sakura blushed, Kazuha continued: "You're my good-luck charm. In fact, just looking at you makes me think it'll be a good day."
"You're saying I'm pretty then."
"You're gorgeous as hell," Kazuha had said quickly, then turned bright red right after. Sakura had responded with:
"If I'm good luck and gorgeous, then you should really ask me out, you know? Get me to stay close to you longer."
Karina remembered that Kazuha had grinned from ear to ear, then crossed her arms and stared at Sakura. "Challenge accepted. So will you, Miyawaki Sakura, go on a date with me?"
"Um, yes," Sakura had emphasized, and then turned to Chaewon and Karina a blushing, giggling mess once a satisfied (and also equally excited) Kazuha had smiled and left.
Smooth. If only Karina could find that.
Sadly, her only love life at the moment was in the form of an ex who apparently wanted her back, and a girl in her AP Lit class who might hate her for exposure.
Karina's mind was wandering so much that she didn't notice when someone purposefully shoved her and she tripped, automatically bracing for impact.
She was falling so fast she barely had time to register what she was seeing: red hair, pale skin, warm brown eyes, a light brown fuzzy sweater and arms locking around her body.
"Hey, are you okay-"
Karina stared into the eyes of none other than Winter Kim.
They gazed at each other for a moment before Karina's brain activated and she stuttered out, "Oh! Uh, yes. I'm fine. Thanks. Thank you. Are you Winter?"
I'm so stupid! Same words.
Winter nodded slowly, thankfully not picking up yet. "Karina?"
"Yeah. Thank you. For like saving my life."
"Y- you're welcome," Winter stammered, and she averted her eyes, a blush painting her cheeks. Of course. Karina usually had this effect on people.
"I should repay you."
"It's okay, really, I have a class to get to-"
Karina's stupid mouth opened itself before she could hold herself back.
"Are you free on Saturday? There's a really nice ramen place a few blocks away from the school."
Same words again. It was a miracle at this point Winter hadn't picked up on it yet.
"Ramen?"
Winter perked up, and Karina's mind compared her to an adorable puppy. Maybe a Maltese. Yes, that'd be it.
"Yeah," Karina said, then flashed her a smile, but not the fake, shiny one she reserved for teachers and Heeseung: the soft-eyed, warm smile that she gave her friends when she wanted them to know she was truly thankful for them.
It did the trick- Winter was back to blushing again, and Karina couldn't help herself thinking how cute it was.
If this was Min in real life, well... Karina wasn't sure which one she liked more, the girl who asked for help and could talk to her straight up, or the cute, adorably stumbling girl in front of her who'd just saved her life (or reputation).
What if she liked both?
What if she suddenly wanted Winter, just a little bit, as Min and as Winter Kim? What if she wanted them both?
