"You look so pretty," Karina's mother gushed as she stood at the foot of the stairs, turning a full circle in her black off-shoulder dress.
It wasn't a gown, not ballroom-like or anything; just a small black dress that Karina really liked. It also gained approval from Karina's mother Tiffany ("because girls need to party once in a while") and with light makeup and heels, Karina was ready.
"Thanks, Mom," Karina laughed. The past few weeks had been hectic, but Karina was fine now. Heeseung was leaving her alone, and she was perfectly happy with Winter. Her best friends were happy too, and life was good.
Winter. Winter. The girl's name ran unexhausted through her brain. "Do you think that girlfriend of yours will think the same?"
Tiffany's voice startled Karina, and her mother grinned, knowing exactly who Karina was thinking about. "I'm glad you're happy with her, Rina. Heeseung was a nice boy, but he always seemed a bit papery. God, and that haircut. It was like he was some eighties boy band wannabe. It got painful to look at after a-"
"Mom!" Karina exclaimed, but she was laughing. Tiffany had had her young, and Karina's father had left them early, so they'd always had just each other. Tiffany had a very supportive job, though, and her family was rich, so the two were never poor or not well-off. Tiffany and Karina always managed to see each other, though.
"What? I'm just saying." Tiffany smiled at her, and Karina felt a rush of appreciation for her family. She was glad her mother had been accepting, at least.
"So, is she picking you up?"
"No, Chae is. She said she wanted to meet me at the dance, because it would be better for us to see each other that way."
"Oh, like a wedding?" Tiffany grinned, and Karina turned red.
"Y- yes. I guess. Sort of like that. M- maybe?"
"Karina," Tiffany said seriously. "It's okay if you like her, you know. Just-"
Karina's phone pinged and she checked it quickly. "Chae's here!"
"Okay, have fun, and be safe!" Tiffany called as Karina turned to go.
Karina turned back in surprise. "Be safe? I don't think Chae would crash her car, and there won't be any drinking." Then it dawned on her. "You're talking about... Ohh... No! Mom! Winter wouldn't do that! Or maybe she would, I don't know, it's just, how would we even... Mom!" Karina's face had turned a bright, blushing red with embarrassment.
Tiffany just laughed. "Okay, whatever you say. Love you!"
"Love you too," Karina grumbled, then went downstairs where Chaewon was waiting.
Chaewon snickered. "I heard all that."
"Shut up and drive, Pupu!"

Sakura was already there when they arrived, but she waited outside so they could all make their grand entrance there. Wonyoung waited with her, looking gorgeous in a long red gown which looked nice next to Sakura's little white puffy-shouldered dress. Both girls had their long hair down, Wonyoung's half-up-half-down hairstyle shimmering in the setting sun. The venue was already packed.
