Is It Normal?

I looked down at my Jordans, moving my feet left to right, then right to left.

I liked the sound they made. What I hated though, was how much noise there was around me. Heathrow Airport was always packed with people rushing to catch their flights, with announcements blaring over the intercom.

I looked at my phone. Leah's flight had landed 5 minutes ago, and she still wasn't there. Maybe I was being too impatient.

I looked up at the display board, mindlessly reading the city names appearing on it.

I felt someone sit right next to me. Why would someone sit right next to me when there were so many seats?

I was about to grumble like an annoyed old person, until I turned my head, and to my surprise, Vivianne was sitting next to me.

"Hey," she told me, offering me a polite smile. "Waiting on Leah?"

Her presence was unexpected yet strangely comforting amid the bustling airport chaos. With a warm smile, I nodded in response to her question. "Yeah. Waiting on Beth?"

Vivianne simply nodded. Then, a comfortable silence settled between us. We had this weird relationship. We barely talked to each other, but we were still close. On and off the pitch.

I didn't know what it was about Viv, but there was a sense of friendship between us that transcended words. We had a lot of mutual respect, I liked to think.

I admired her, at least. I didn't know if it was reciprocal. To me it was clear; she was one of the best footballers to ever grace the pitch. And yet, despite her status as a footballing icon, she remained down-to-earth and approachable, her presence commanding respect wherever she went. She was quiet, but she was also kind. And humility wasn't even close to being the word.

Maybe we had this weird relationship because our two girlfriends were so close to each other. And perhaps, in some strange way, that had drawn Vivianne and me closer together as well.

"You watched them play yesterday?" Viv suddenly asked me.

I nodded, a smile tugging at the corners of my lips as I recalled the intense match between England and Italy. "Yeah, I did. Though game. Too bad it ended in a draw." I said, and Viv nodded in agreement. "They played well against Austria, though. I liked Beth's goal. Very clean."

Vivianne's lips curved into a small smile at the mention of Beth. "Yeah, it was good. She was so full of herself after it, though," she told me, rolling her eyes, while I giggled softly at the information.

Then, as I looked up, I spotted Alessia and Lotte, then Beth and Leah. Viv and I immediately stood up. It felt like we were both waiting for our prom date to walk down the stairs, which was fun. I'm not sure the concept really spoke to the Dutch striker next to me, though.

Alessia and Lotte quickly greeted us with a simple wave, before walking to the exit of the airport. We will see each other tomorrow, so I guess they just wanted to give us some space.

But when Beth and Leah came into view, my heart skipped a beat. Leah's face lit up with a bright smile as soon as she spotted me, her eyes shining with excitement as she hurried over to where Viv and I were standing.

"Hey, baby!" Leah exclaimed, wrapping me in a tight hug as soon as she reached me. I squeezed her tightly, breathing in the familiar scent of her hair as I buried my face in her shoulder.

God, had I missed her. Her perfume, her warmth, the strength of her arms when she wrapped them around me. The feel of her lips against my skin as she pressed a soft kiss to my cheek, filling me with a sense of warmth and belonging that I had sorely missed in her absence.
