"Fuck fuck fuck."

The sound of the hurrying footsteps can be heard. Trying to get away from something. They can feel the dread slowly choking them as each step seems to slowly sink in darkness.

The footsteps grow louder as you hear something. A deep, growling voice shouting something you were unable to understand. The adrenaline begins to kick as their breath quickens. They are only just able to make out the silhouette of the attacker.

In a flash, the figure lunges at them. The momentum of its body crashing against yours and sending you both to the ground. The weight of the attacker is crushing you. The breath is almost knocked out of you from the sudden impact. The growling voice is now roaring on top of you. The feeling of complete helplessness is setting in.

I groan in pain as I screamed angrily at the figure.

"Fuck!!! Just die!!!"

As I grabbed my gun and fired shots at the figure.

The gunfire brings a pause to the assailant. They pull back momentarily before pressing forward for another attack. Their hands are now wrapped around your neck as they pin you on the floor. With an overwhelming sense of panic, you can feel the weight of the entire attack, crushing your voice as you try to shout for help. The grip is tightening as you fear for your life and see no possible way out.

I can feel the tears falling in my cheeks as I gasped for air. I punched the assailant hoping it would give me a chance to escape from their grasp. But no matter how many times I punch the figure. It didn't loosen the grip on my neck, I choked I could feel my vision slowly turning black.

The last thoughts that run in my head...

'Is this how I am going to die?'

The darkening vision begins to take over as the struggle continues in vain. The figure laughs as the grip becomes more aggressive. You could feel your body going limp as it slowly succumbs to the lack of air. Darkness fills your eyesight as you hear the last thing that the assailant shouts back with the most cruel expression of joy.

I shot up from my bed sweating like buckets. I hold my face as I slowly hug my knees. As I can feel my heart ramming through my ribs. I panted as I sighed as I frowned.

"Fucking nightmare..."

As I sighed then lay back on my bed as I watched my ceiling. It's been 500 years since the downfall of humanity. Ever since the invasion of those aliens using their bio-weaponry to conquer our planet. Things got more chaotic, the government failed, everyone was running for their lives, only to fend for themselves.

I stood up from my bed as I walked towards the bathroom. I put a toothpaste on my tooth brush. As I mindlessly brush my teeth as I watch my reflection.

It's been almost 10 years since I saw a living human being. The weirdest thing is that after the invasion of the aliens. Everyone was left to defend themselves. I was on the run dragging my little sister from the stampede.

I wince in pain as I remember those terrible memories.

I can feel the pain of the past memories resurface, and the tears begin to fill your eyes. The reflection in the mirror almost seemed detached and unreal. As I stare into the eyes that mirror the pain all the way back to that day.

The image of seeing your little sister being crushed and dragged into the stampede still haunts you to this day. I try to brush the tears away, but my thoughts just begin to flood my mind again.

I slammed my hand on the sink in anger making the sink break a little. I looked at my hand and there was a wound in my hand when I slammed my hand. I looked at it as I opened the cabinet to patch my wounds.

As I looked through the windows in my bed. All I can see is the ghostly town. Vegetation has grown on the broken buildings. Despite what happened to humankind. The animals survive the alien invasion.

I watched the moose grazing on the grass peacefully. I flickered my gaze at the town currently I'm staying in one of the apartments. That was not broken during the invasion. The necessities are still working like the electricity and water.

The ghost town stood eerily silent as the wind whistled through the broken windows and doors of the desolate buildings. The vegetation had overrun any attempts of civilization as they covered what used to be a thriving city. The animals had taken over the streets as they roamed freely without fear. The occasional moose grazed in the field outside the building, giving a small glimmer of hope that nature would eventually prevail. The necessities still survived despite the chaos of the invasion, allowing for you to seek refuge in this abandoned apartment.

I sighed as I prepare myself to explore these ruins to look for food I can find.

"Another day.... another life...this is shit."
