Life often seems beautiful, doesn't it?

Kids say it when they get presents.

Adults when good things happen.

The old when they watch the sunset.

Even the departed long for it.

But she never quite bought into that.

To her, life's beauty often hides ugly truths.

She learned this when he left them all alone.

When she was forced to grow up.

When she was forced out of her shell.

When she had to suffer.

When she had no choice but to suffer.

. . .

Yet, amidst the darkness, she had seen moments of light.

She had felt it with others.

With their care.

With their friendship.

With their understanding.

With their love.

But she never stopped wondering when that would stop...when the ugliness would reveal itself...even when she had the slightest hope it would never...

Maybe...Maybe she won't feel this way any longer. Perhaps she'd meet people who'd show her a different side of life, one worth cherishing. One worth living.
